Live rock stacking

I have some questions on live rock stacking. How do you guys get your rock to stay in place well. is their some type of glue or putty. Also, will it hurt some of your rock to be touching the glass in the back. I have noticed lots of pics in threads on this site with rocks resting against the back (for stability?). I have a 46 bow and I want to stack about three quarter way up, but I'm worried about stability, and being able to pull it off without some rock resting against the back glass. thanks for your help.

Place the larger pieces on the glass bottom so they dont wobble then stack useing epoxy or gel super glue. You may have to shape some rock for better placement. ITs best to get a sceme set thats stable without epoxy then epoxy that.
Placing on the back glass or even sides is fine just leave room for water flow and fish movement. Some keep only front clean as i do some clean front and sides. Its up to you. I have changed the rockwork in my tank 3 times in 1 yr so as you learn you adjust.

I use egg crate. I made a framework out of it with zip ties, then attached the rock with zip ties as well. I also put a sheet of egg crate on the bottom, under the sandbed. It keeps the rock from making pressure points on the glass.

If you have the room I suggest against stacking against the back of your tank. Reason being is firstly it makes it nearly impossible to clean the back of your tank. Also, I like to toss a powerhead or two back there to help blow extra water through your rock and keep detrius from settling. There are epoxies and putties you can use but I just create a good base and jiggle stuff until it settles securely. Dont wanna risk crushing anything.

The eggcrate on the bottom will only collect nitrate and keep worms from moving around. You want the rockwork to lay and the bottom without pressure points and withouit wobble.Hammer Time. You want the rock work stable in place before you epoxy it down.
