Live Rock type and place???

I am a newbie here and am in the process of getting my 55 gal up and running, what is the preferred or best rock to purchase for my tank and how much do I really need to get the tank going??
was thinkin 65lbs? more or less? and where is a good place to order?

This is kinda a loaded question. As a general rule of thumb we'd say that you should have 1-1.5lbs of liverock per gallon of water. Of course, the more the better; and the only real limit is the amount of space in your tank (and/or sump) that you can afford.

In reality this depends on your projected bioload. The more fish/coral/inverts you'd like the keep then the more liverock you should have to balance out the system.

The 'best' liverock is also debatable. Good liverock is considered very porous liverock.

I purchased Lalo Live Rock from LiveAquaria.com. This rock was awsome, I had been looking for rock locally, but nothing comared to the colors on this rock. It is currently curing right nowe but I will have pictures soon!

Being this rock is expensive I would purchase the 30lb box and then supliment it with base rock, which will get seeded by the Lalo.

So there would be no problem purchasing more than one type of rock? ie..30 lbs lalo and maybe 30 lbs fiji?

Someone else on this forum did that and he said that the coralline from the fiji rock took over those on the lalo. Lalo has yellow, red and green coralline instead of PURPLE on the fiji rock!! (which IMO is overdone) That's why I think base rock would be the best if you are going to spend the money on the lalo because the lalo coralline will seed the base rock.

But to answer your question, yes you can mix all types of rock. Each has their own unique shapes and colors so get lots of pictures!!
