live rock

Is it unreasonable to cure live rock with light? I just never really got why you would put a rock that you want biodiversity from in the dark and kill more life than needed. I have rocks that have Halimeda, coralline, and other photosynthetic life I would like to keep. I get the algae bloom issues but if I use actinic light and change the water frequently wouldn't I end up with rock that is more "alive"?

Curing live rock in the dark won't totally kill any of the things you're worried about keeping. Both the halimeda and coralline will srping up like mad after the curing process.
