Live Rock

Anyone have advice on were you can buy live rock for the best price. I'm starting a 29g Biocube this weekend and I am going with 40lbs of argonite and want to get at least 15-20 lbs of live rock to start my tank cycle. Also would anyone suggest mixing your own water or just buying it. $30 for premixed RO/DI water i think is worth the piece of mind but i am new so just looking for suggestions.

You can look around, sometimes on craigslist and places you will find deals or you can go with dry rock if you dont mind waiting for it to cure. I would suggest investing in your own RODI unit and the tools needed to test the water in the long run it will save you lots of money.

Where are you, Sgt. King? I, for one, would be willing to help you out with some RO/DI to get you started. As GratefulReef said, weekly water changes get old fast without your own RO/DI source. Trust me...it's MUCH simpler to just spend the money up front. I think I paid less than $100 for mine on eBay.

Fair enough. Were can I buy the best live rock? I don't have enough posts to send a pm so if you can send me details and your number ill call you later today.

Theres actually a nice ro on craigslist atm for like 75$ wanna say it was a 4 stage, i just grabbed reactor off the guy the other day and i think he still had it, hes in buffalo so not far but it would be worth taking a look at thats a pretty good price, deff would recomend having ur own, iv heard alot of stories about some shops not selling ro and it just being tap

That is how urban legends get started and since you do not have a location listed on your signature......

Welcome!

I'd consider a smaller bag of sand. ..40lbs in a 29g is a lot. I.e. I have about 10lbs in a 150g.

I was pricing out RO/DI units online. Is there a specific brand or type that is better than others. Are there any features or options that i should really be looking for?

I have 2 bags of 20lbs indo-pacific black that i am planning on using, but what your suggesting is only using one bag of the live argonite?

You will pay between 120-300 on a ro/di unit depending on gpd. Get one with a tds meter. Check out airwaterandice.com.

It depends on what you plan to keep. If you're going to have a jawfish or zebra mantis a deep sandbed is a requirement.

It's mostly personal preference. I would get your rock stack set then i would put a small dusting of sand in. If you prefer more then add some. .. remember once you add flow to your system, the sand will shift.

When I went with more sand in the past, I'd always keep it lower than the trim on the aquarium.
