Is there such thing as to much live rock? Is live rock necessary?

I personally believe the answer is no. It provides excellent biological filtration for your fish. As long as you run media such as gfo and carbon to pull out phosphates,etc. from the water column the rocks, you should be good. You just need to make sure you run enough so that those things don't leach into the rocks.
