Live Rock

it doesn't question my purchasing decisions like why wife does when I explain why I paid $8 a pound for my live rock.

Nothing. Biggest mistake I made was buying live rock for $7.50 a lb and live sand for $20 a bag when I first started.

The life that comes on/in/with it: shrimps, feather worms, urchins, worms, barnacles, sponges, tunicates.

There are some risks; mine came with some gorilla crabs. But I prefer it.

i love the life too. i can stare at my tank for hours to look for life when the lights go out. still finding crabs and stuff 2 years after i last added new rock. (found a tiny crab last night)

i did find a Bobbitt worm once but luckily was able to get it out with ease. so to me the pest is worth the risk of the reward. but thats just me
