Live Rock

Assuming you just setup the tank fairly recently its likely totally normal diatom growth..
Its 100% to be expected/normal and will go away in time.. could be a few weeks or so and it will just go away..

A new tank goes through "ugly stages" being diatoms then green film/hair algae and even cyano and usually in that order.. All will pass and all are a normal part of a tanks maturing..

Sorry to give you the bad news but pure white rocks are a sign of death! Any truly live rock is going to have a brownish tint to it.

I would say "sign of a lack of life".. vs "sign of death"..
White does not mean something died.. Just that little/nothing is living ;)
But I'm a glass half full kind of guy
