live rock

My 150g (Ive had the tank for a year.... its taken this long to get the equipment and feel comfortable enough to set up :)) is going up this weekend!!

I forget who posted the pic of the RO/DI hooked to the water heater, but thanks a ton. I got that set up yesterday!

Got the vho's/halides installed the day before that!

Just picked up my 65g sump from glasscages (after I stepped in fresh concrete, then got mobbed by 5 weiner dogs, all of which ran through the fresh concrete :D). Im going to make the cuts and seal it up now!

Holy crap!

Anyway, the critter has pretty decent prices on live rock if I buy it locally. I was wondering if anyone wanted to copycat the west tn club and make a group buy on some live rock. I had even contemplated driving a few hours to Premium Aquatics to pick out pieces. Just a thought, let me know if there is any interest.

Also, thanks for the help on the sump and RO/DI (this is to mtrc at large), it was a huge help. Now I feel like I can get to a meeting :)

Could you post a link to that thread. I've been thinking about doing the exact same thing!

I thought the Critter charged 7 bucks a pound or something like that. I bought mine online and had it air freighted. I paid 350 for 100 lbs of rock, including shipping.

Talk to Monica about getting better prices. She told me when I ordered that prices on her site are higher.

I'm not ready yet, but in a month or so, I'll be making that same drive. It's only 4 1/2 or less. I believe they sell Marshall Island rock for 5.99/lb! And you get to pick it out!!!

I hope your tank set up goes faster than mine! Notice its 3 AM and I needed a little surfing to wind down a min. from all the rock, sand and backach I have acomplished tonight! I am still so not near finished but getting sand and a little rock in was encouraging! Good luck with getting it done in a weekend :)

Haha. Well, by "setting it up this weekend", I mean, "water will actually touch the inside of the tank this weekend" :)

What is your timeframe on the base rock? I was planning on ordering the live rock the first of next week.

i just ordered 60lbs of base rock from hirocks.com Looks pretty good and got some good sized pieces and some nicer smaller pieces with lots of holes. Last time I checked though hirocks site was down. Rock was only $1 a lbs. it was $60 shipped.

How much is everybody looking for? think fishguysi, has about 300 lbs. If we buy it all maybe give us a better deal?

I need 100 lbs. I had considered getting fishguysi's. The only problem is I have found places where I can have it shipped to my door for the same price. This would save me in gas driving there and my time. I figure gas there and back would be atleast 40 for me. So from fishguysi would be $390. Reefermadness will overnight 90 pounds to my door for $358 or 2 day for $326.

Now.. If we could get a deal on it all and ayone wants to drive up there to get it (or pitch me some money for gas) I would throw in on some. I have a empty 120 gallon up I could hold it in for a week or 2 until you were ready to come and get it.

Good thing about my rock is there will be no die off and no unwanted critters. You can put it in your tank as soon as you get home no cycle time.

I think Im going to take fishguysi up on his LR. May be heading up there this weekend. Do you want to coordinate something?
