live sand

IMO its much more beneficial to just get some sand from a local reefer and use it to seed some playsand.

I don't have a local LFS with live sand, so I'll be ordering some online

Does the whiteness vary much? I'm looking for a bright white

i bought some southdown sand awhile back when it was still available and now I need more sand. Dont know if silica is in fact bad, but I'll stay away just in case... I can't find any "base" sand so I might have to spend $$$ for the aragalive sand.

If you are getting sand from fellow reefers, you could get it from more than one. Actually if you can I say deff do it!

here's the short of "packaged livesand"...how does sand stay alive in a bag, on a shelf with no temp control and most importantly...no oxygen? The Packaged sand states just "bioactive", dry sand and salt water mixed together is bioactive as well so you make the call. I spent hundreds on this stuff for my 120 about 3 years ago, it did absolutely nothing for my tank except my water was less cloudy quicker, but then what do you expect when you place wet clean sand into a tank.

Best option is to see if you can find a reefer that can spare or sell you a pound or even your LFS.

Best of Luck

ummmm any body had this problem? i have a ton of little sand balls on the base of the sand i guess where the sand has attached to air bubbles a few are floating and i smushed them to release the sand from the bubble works well but the majority of them are laying on the bottom of the tank i have tried stirring them and compacting them , to no effect i guess a couple of hours of soaking in the water will help ? any one had this before ?
