local ASM modders???

Actually, most do seem to know of it. I've asked in the ASM mod thread and about 90% did that first. I am leaning toward getting another impeller and trying the meshwheel mod. But this is helping no doubt.

Thanks!

I just installed the gate valve mod tonight. Not sure yet what - if any - difference it makes in the skimmate. I am anxious to try that elbow mod tho...

BTW - asmskimmer.com sells the mod kits at least. As far as the impellers, I don't know. Those impellers don't look like mine though...

The gate mod shouldn't change the skimmate other than you have much finer control over the water level in the chamber with the gate valve.

You have the mini skimmer Adam. I do not konw what make/model pump that is but your impeller looks more like the Turboflotor/Oceanrunner impeller, which many prefer by the way. The meshwheel mod would be difficult for you to effect with that impeller.

Ok, I owe mavgi and others an apology. I've been going around talking about how people are "hacking away" and "mangling" their impellers. But I also gathered the material and ordered an extra impeller, and hacked myself (finger) and the old needlewheel.

Last night tried enkamat and the synthetic steel wool (BTW: no need to get that ... large pet chains carry the scrubbie for cleaning the glass, and it's the same stuff and cheaper) in turns.

Not bowled over. Air from 5-7lpm up to 7-10lpm, identical on each.

BUT I wasn't too careful with the enkamat. I cut new pieces, careful to cut larger than needed and in squares. Used scissors to carefully open a small hole in the center of each to slide over the piece on the needle-less wheel. Used smaller zip ties and was careful not to scrunch or pull the enkamat.

POW! 15lpm steady. I can't see well into my G5 ... dirty on outside (calcium/salt). But the foam is unbelievable even in 5min and the hiss from the tubing is tremendous. No way the G5 could handle 2 of these I guess. Lowered water in chamber substantially. We'll see how it skims.

But I can't see how it can be anything but a tremendous improvement.

If it doesn't hold up over time, then back to the stock needlewheel. I do have my doubts that this stuff may just disintegrate...

LOL! You are now going to have to change your sig line. BTW you can mod the Ocean Runner, all I did was cut the top 2 rows of needles off and use two layers of the mesh. The pump is too much for the Turbo flotor now, I have to restrict the air intake. My G3 has been running for 2 months with the mesh and has not shown any sign of coming apart yet.

I am not sure if you have added the extra Sendra pump or not yet. If you do decide to do it I can tell you I popped the two holes in mine and added the extra pump. It was very easy.

Not sure it could even handle a 3rd pump at 8" diameter. I have 2 9000s on the G5. If I did anyting, I'd make one recirc but I'm not sure there's a point to doing that.
