Well, I always love pics of people's tanks. Even without them though I feel pretty confident the lower parts need some maintenance. The carbon filters is a good idea as well.
It's your tank and you know it best after all this time with it, I can only give ideas. Let us know how it goes please.

That's lovely, very nice. Looking at photo 3 I can see that ceramic section could use some cleaning. I think you will be good in the end.
