Local source for acrylic

I know this question has been asked a thousand times before, but Search doesn't work, so I have to ask again.

What is a local source for a small amount of acrylic or thick plexiglass? Do the home stores (HD, Lowe's) or the hobby stores (Michael's, Hobby Lobby) carry it?

I need it to build a splash shield to sit atop my sump, similar to the glass above the boards at a hockey rink. Any other suggestions for materials are welcome. I need to do this fairly quickly because I've got a lot of splahing going on.

I work in the Schaumburg area, so anything close to there would be fantastic. I could pick it up at lunchtime.

try Homedepot by the sheets of glass...i got some plexi there....

Really? I just called them and they said they only have the real thin plexi.

I've got 1/4" acrylic at Menards a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks schmoeger6. I went to Menard's. They have a decent selection, but I surprised at the prices. 1/4" 2x4 sheet was $33. A bit much for my little project, so I got a 0.10" 18x24 for $11.

Now, the question is - razor blade or table saw? I can put a 60 tooth blade on my saw, but it might be overkill on this thin material.

I use a saw with an 80 tooth blade, and raise the blade up all the way, so that the teeth only contact the acrylic at the front and back, helps keep heat down, and won't melt the acrylic. scoring it would probably work, but make sure you have it on a good straight edge when you "snap it". IMO the saw is the way to go.

Call GE Polymershapes in Naperville. You can get it up to 2 inches i think, and by a 4x8 sheet.

I have a bunch of scrap 1/8" and 3/16", what size are you looking for?

Thanks, but I picked up a sheet yesterday. I made my splash guard last night, but I realized as I was looking at the sump that it won't just slip right in. Gonna have to take some stuff apart to get it in there. So that's another project!
