Local source for float valve

Stopped by Home Depot and Lowes today, neither carry float valves. Would like to get one to connect to my RO/DI unit so I don't overflow my storage container.

I would save yourself the hassel and get them from bulk reef supply. I had a Kent float valve that didn't shut off. Brs are bullet proof in my experience.

Funny, but mine came from Lowes. It's for a swamp cooler and was made of brass with a plastic float. I think it was $10-15. Maybe it didn't occur to them that a swamp cooler float valve would work.

I got mine at a Plumbing supple house for like six bucks. Brass and plastic float. They had some for different psi's to.

don't ever use the brass and metal in your tank, in my experience, i use the stainless steel clamp from home depot, and they rusted, my tank is crash. I have to replace all the water and rocks cost alot for $3 stainless steel clamp

I don't think it is the rust to be concerned about. GFO is basically rust. I'd be more concerned with copper leaching out of the brass...

I have been using a float valve for ATO in my tank for the last 5 years. No problems. It has SS internals and a SINGLE piece polypropylene float.

1 - NEVER use brass on anything downstream of your RO/DI OR in the tank.

2 - The Kent Marine Float Valves are molded 2 piece floats. If they ever crack, they will fill up with water and sink.

3 - Rust should not hurt your tank. If you had a crash and you blame it on one rusting part...you better keep looking for the REAL problem.

Wow I never even thought of all the rust now my good and cheap Idea could cost me in the long run thanks all!!!!! :)

Typically Lowes and HD will carry these in their 'swamp cooler' section of the store. With these being a seasonal item, they may not have it now. I'll double check the next time I'm in the store.

Yup, I got a couple of these from HD / Lowes last summer - as BigFish says, they are seasonal only (for swamp coolers), I doubt you'll find them right now. But these have brass drop arms, and the water will drip right down the arm before dropping into your tank - a great source for copper or zinc leaching. I starting having a water problem last november, and I think this was one of the sources of my pain. Needless to say, I no longer use this; they are all plastic now (or plastic with a stainless stell cotter pin pivot, which rarely gets water on it).
