How was your trip? from your pics it looks like you enjoyed it.
I was looking to at least get some help cutting the lumber and building the frame. I was a little concerned about doing it myself since I have zero experience and because it is for a 300g DD but I ended up building the frame by myself over the weekend and it turned out good. Thanks for the offer.
Jeff gave me an idea for skinning the frame that I'm going to try. I will "try" to build some nice looking panels and attach them with magnets to the frame, this way all of them can be removed for full access.
I followed RocketEngineer's template and recommendations from the DIY section. He told me to use 2x8 for the top frame and 2x4 for the rest and that should be plenty. I am still a little concerned with all that weight so once I put the tank in its permanent place I'm going to add 2x8 center legs. I was also thinking in adding diagonal supports in the corners between the legs and the frames (top and bottom).
The tank is already sitting on it and it's leveled all around; I will fill it with water and check it again before transferring the rock and livestock just to be sure.
That looks real good, nice work. The 2x8 top is plenty, if anything I'd add the center vertical support to distribute the load across the 2x4 bottom. Is it going on a concrete or wooden joist floor? If it's the latter I'd reinforce the floor for sure... this tank will weigh the same as a small Honda
Thanks for the input, it is going on concrete floor.I think I'm going to add some 2x4 across the bottom frame and then a piece of plywood to hold the sump.
