I got a long tentacle anemone a few weeks ago, close to a month. I had some really cheap T5 lighting and it just wasn't cutting it. Even my frogspawn at the bottom was turning brown. The nem was going downhill here. I got dual 150w MH JBJ vipers to give the nem what it wants.
For a few weeks the nem was all but dead and i was wishing it would just die so i could flush it. Now the nem seems to be thriving. The light is good, the flow is good. The nem expands and now holds it's mouth closed. It's gotten sticky again. It even responded quickly when I touched it. The only problem I have with it now is that it still just sits on the sand and it's foot shrinks and expands, often looking like a huge penis incase you want to know, but it will stick to anything and it will not plant itself into the sand.
Any advise on this? does it seem normal? should I just be giving it more time? I do think it's getting much better but I still feel this could be odd.
36 gallon.
dual 150w MH 14000k.
Ammonia assumed at zero
Nitrite assumed at zero. I don't test these things, I just avoid any spikey situations and ammonia has a smell.
Nitrate at around 20 most of the time. I don't let it get higher than this.
PH 8.3
Dual heaters at 80 degree.
Alk at 8-10 afaik. It's prolly time for a updated test at the LFS. I am consistant though.
Cheap skimmer. I do skim for now till I've got more filter feeders and get my refugium loaded with cheato. With nitrate at about 20, I try to keep organics lower.
3.75 inch sand bed (tahitian moon sand)
HOB refugium with cheato coming in next week. Had a bit of cheato but thing it died do to lack of light. Never would recover once it went down hill.
I mostly hope that this just sounds normal with a sick nem in healing. I just bought a sexy RBTA today and a maxi mini earlier this week. The most important part now is that nothing goes downhill as my tank is getting expensive.
So far, the only things I've lost in my tank are one of 5 mexican turbo snails, two monti frags that seem to have gotten light shocked. A firetail dartfish that my old yellowtail seem to have killed.
Current stock.
MAny small hermits.
Anemone Crab

Many nassarious snails.
keyhole limpets.
unknown small urchin hitch hiked in many months ago.

Ricordia Floridas.
Zoas.
One monti digi that had a white skeleton and pnk polyps (bleached?) gaining a bit of color and doing good.
Hydnophora
Two Black Clowns that don't know what an anemone is.
Rainbow maxi mini carpet anemone.
Long tentacle Anemone.
Rose Bulb Tip Anemone.
Hand of Mike. (It's in there so much it should be considered livestock)
