Hi all,
I have a clown pair that have been together for years. The female is a percula and the male is an oscellaris. They have had a bumpy road the last 2 months as they went to baby sitter's while I tore down my 90 and put up my 120. When I brought them home, they were terribly sick. The male was extremely skinny and the female, while fat, I swear was moments from death when I put her into my tank.
The first few days home, they stayed together and tried desperately to host in a BTA that was maybe an inch and a half across. (My anemones were also being babysat and they all shrank quite a bit) I put a large RBTA to give them somewhere they could host together (my hope was to reduce stress levels to help them get over the sickness) Now a week later, they are both looking much better. The male has put on some weight, both of their scales are looking much better and they are eating like champs.
Once they finally discovered the new rose, it seems like the male is deciding he wants to wear the pants in the family all the sudden and has been chasing the female away. She's not doing any submissive jerking to him, just "running" away from him.
Yes, I am 100% certain of which one is the female and which is the male. I have had them over 2 years and they used to spawn like clockwork. They were fully grown and mated before I received them.
Is it possible for a female to turn into a male? I don't know why after all these years they are suddenly doing this. I'm almost wondering if the male isn't sensing some weakness in her due to whatever made them both sick and is seeing his opportunity to reign supreme.
They are currently the only fish in the tank as my others did not survive whatever made them all sick (I was told ick, but I have not seen any spots on the clowns since I brought them home anyway)
Any suggestions? I really don't want to lose either of them =(
