Longest Living Clownfish in Captivity...Ever?

hey, there

I have a pair of gold-rimmed Maroon Clowns that endured thick or thin. They survived two malfunctioned heaters- one exploded in my tank killing other fish and electricuting the coral, the second overheated the tank cooking all my snails & hermits. These two Maroons are bullet-proof.

Here's my question. I've had these guys since about 10/01. They've lived for 5 years in captivity (at first in 20g, now in a 35g cube/reef). How long can they go?

Is there a record for longest living clownfish in captivity?

I love these little dudes, and wish they could live forever!

Your thoughts?

I don't recall, but I know it was at least 18 years (and I believe it was A. clarkii). I could be wrong, though. I had a female A. ocellaris in captivity for 12 years--and I bought her as a wild-caught adult, so she was defintitely even older than that.

We have a couple of pairs that have been spawning regularly since the late '80s (88-89). Since they were WC, who knows how old they really are.

There was a post on here last year about a WC pair of A. ocellaris that was in captivity for >25 years before the female had problems with her ovipositor and died, the male is still going strong as far as a I know.

Also the Shed is said to have a pair of maroons that are >40 years old.

Honestly it is really just a guessing game as to live span. Keep in mind that even as little as 10 years ago we did not have the knowledge we have now in keeping marine fishes. Just think of what a CB maroon or A. ocellaris or A. percula might live to being in near perfect conditions all of it's life...

I had a pair of Percs for 19 years untill last week. My F, ing Lunare Wrasse killed the male while he was guarding the nest. I managed to save the female who is now living in my 20 gallon Refugium. These guys have been awesome. Probably have had over 100 spawns and hatches..

Later,

Jim

I am really sorry to hear that, I would probablly be a mess if that happened to a fish I had for 19 years...

I would have fished the Lunare Wrasse out and thrown it against the wall. Seriously If I ever had a fish that long, and it was killed like that, Id go on a killing spree.

Congrats though!
