look healthy to you?

Admittedly I'm more familiar with the care of H. Crispa and haven't dealt with H. Malu personally but a few general things to look for in healthy anemones are a "tight" or at least closed mouth which for the most part this one seems to have as well as good pigmentation.

I would also say this has good coloration- there are no super duper neon highlighted colors or white just a very good strong green and tan color.

Again I could be wrong but on the whole I'd say this is a healthy anemone.

These green H. malu's have been on divers den for quite some time. Maybe its because of the open mouth? IMO I wouldn't buy it because of that.

I agree the mouth looks open to me also. The pigmentation does look good but it could just be the pic. Anyone else notice the close up pic doesn't show the mouth? They cover it with another pic.

On Karen's Anemone site she show a picture of a healthy mouth and it's similar to that...closed but slightly open...not gapping wide.

Now that you mention it the picture is so small its very hard to see the mouth but I agree its slightly open.

I wonder if they feed them? If you were really curious I'd call live aquaria their customer service reps are really nice and could probably check for you to see what it is doing and maybe take an updated picture for you?

When I see anemones come into the LFS they can be stressed but usually over a few days go back to being healthy looking and doing fine. That would make me want to see an updated picture if they don't mind working with you just to see how it is doing. Perhaps a larger one too so you can see the whole animal in something larger than a thumbnail

To me the entire anemone looks too "tight". I also appears to be resting on top of the sand instead of being burrowed down in it. This could be the result of the anemone just being just into the tank to be photographed, but along with the mouth being "not quite right", it would keep me from buying it.

i ordered this one from them

its hard to tell the health of an anemone fro a picture

That's so sad :( is it slowly recovering for you GSMguy? that is one ticked off looking anemone :(

That is why I say if you're going to order online get a recent photo or something to go on - and even then shipping IS very stressful.

Maybe you should see if you can have an LFS order one?

That is a dead anemone. I remember the picture of it in "what color is your anemone?" Thread (some thing like that, I can't remember exactly what the thread was called). I remember them saying it didn't make it. right?
