Haha, I do love the wrasses, but the Belonoperca Pylei is stunning. I would love one (if they were around) but also wonder how they adapt to captivity. If they're like other soapfish it's gotta be a nightmare.
 
So who's seriously interested in getting some Cirrhilabrus johnsoni? If you are what mix are you interested in (pair, trio, single male)? I'm curious what mixes and ratios the hard core wrasse guys like...

When Brian fires up the rebreather Belonoperca should be available... but man will it cost you!! What a fish though... Rich Pyle told me they see that thing everywhere in the Pacific now (at depth of course) since the original was caught in the Cooks... Rich even brought the original fish back with him along with three peppermint angels and two narcosis and they all resided in the same tank in his apartment in Hawaii for a while!:fun4:
 
He has no new tanks and has not had any for years... he told me he was tempted to set up a tank just for Centropyge abei (the most recently discovered species of angelfish) that he collected the first aquarium specimen of (Brian was on the trip and collected too, but his kicked it). This fish is still on display (the only one in the world) at the Waikiki Aquarium in Hawaii... I saw it two weeks ago and its in great shape that has improved through the years... There are no real photos around of his tanks as they were always fish only (he's born and raised in Hawaii). Most of his photos are of his fish... anyone that owns either of these two books will notice his peppermint angel photos on the cover... taken from his apartment tank! :)

Thx Copps. I wouldn't mind photos of a fish only with a trio of boylei and a narcosis couple... :)
I believe the scape would not be of substantial importance!
 
belonoperca pylei is stunning.

Where i come from, B. chabanaudi is commonly offered during Philippine shipments. but it's regarded as a useless fish here and no one buys it.

Retails for only around USD20 here. a pity because they're gorgeous but seem to only accept live food.

Sweet now Dr. Seuss fish:) I heard last time Brian was selling them for $1000, what price are you expecting for them to be coops and on average how deep are they caught.

Do you know how deep the peppermints and narcosis were caught at and were they caught on the same dive?

A LFS here had one for about a year and no one bought, I asked the owner about it and apparently some guy from New York came down to Florida and bought it! I think they are pretty awesome fish, but never had a tank for them at the time, and didn't want to invest in a fish like that seeing as I'd have to sell it in a little bit because of school.
 
they are very beautiful and i wish i could get my hands on a few . they should be fine in trios or pairs and they are peaceful fish .

Only know from an area in the Marshall island where Brian is living right now I believe. But maybe discovered elsewhere like some deepwater species. Still no reply on depth from Brian but probably around 60 feet.

It's pretty amazing these are the only two species in the genus... one looks like a freshwater lake fish and the other looks like it was designed by Disney...

The Dr. Seuss fish Brian had offered at $1000 but none ever sold at that... they went for more... keep in mind that this was when Brian was collecting and selling himself... now there is a chain of custody like most all other fish... Dr. Seuss are found VERY deep... ~400 plus and is a solitary fish... ask any rebreather diver and going to 400 plus is infinitely more of a PIA than 250 and requires trimix... Dr. Seuss will cost in the thousands when all is said and done and rightfully so...

The peppermints and narcosis were caught on the same dives... the narcosis are generally found deeper than the boylei... those first specimens were caught on compressed air at ~350 feet if you could believe it... Rich Pyle was so narced he didn't remember collecting the narcosis until after surfacing... of course at that time they didn't have a scientific name and for that reason were fittingly given the name Centropyge narcosis... :)

C. johnsoni has only been found at Kwajalein, Marshall Islands, although is has to be found in the surrounding areas too... Kwaj is the largest island, although it is still just longer than the runway that stretches it... the underwater habitat is HUGE though and over 100 times that size, making it one of the largest coral atolls in the world... johnsoni is collected at deeper standard scuba depths I believe between about 80 and 120...

No... all legal... just one wholesaler is able to legally get fish from Kwaj and all of these fish go through there...

400+ is nearly a record i think. i can see fish this deep being 3k+ usd as it takes a team to help the diver get that deep. with what i know of diving i would say 5 to $7k maybe more if its as solitary and rare as youre saying
