I just found an oil painting of that tank !

I'm not sure the second is real. if it is it has been manipulated, it is not at all natural, it is too clean, too homogeneous anf the reflected images on the water surface do not correspond to the fishes and the fishes at the end of the tank seem to be behind the corals,,,............................

I think the second is real. There is too much detail in the little things, like the top left silicon'd edge, the barbs and the sand grains. I wish the cpfarm website could be translated into English.

I may very well be wrong, as my kids always tell me. LOL

The second pic is the real tank...but who knows how much photoshoping has gone into that picture. Things DO seem to be almost "Too Pretty"...

I pulled that picture off of google, when I did an image search for "japanese aquascaping" come to think of it, I never did find my answer that I was looking for....maybe you guys can help?

What makes an aquascaping desing "japanese" ?

It was aquascaped by someone whos Japanese of course!

j/k

From what I know, I would not consider this tank "Japanese Aquascaping" though. Most of the time this would imply a lower, open, bommie rock scape, with large tall branching stags. Like Leonardos tank, but hes Italian, so...........

I dont feel that there is as much of a direct meaning for it compared to when you'd say "Amano planted" aquarium. When you see one of those, or that style, you know it right off of the bat.

This is definently one of the most bad ace tanks, or at least pics that I've seen. I rmember in another thread about this tank that someone had posted they'd seen it in real life, and it does look like this. Its not a closed system though, as its fed NSW constantly, hence the reason for the awesome looking Dendronepthya sp.

I also wanna say thats its in Norway (or Europe), and not Asia? Could be wrong though.

Wow that picture is amazing, even if it isn't real. ;)

Stunreefer- you always have such helpful answers! You are in the A2 area right? I moved out to CA from there... I wish I had known some local reefers back then, especially ones as helpful as you. What local shops do you go to? The fish Dr was the only local emergency store I could find when I was there. I ended up out at Preuss' or some of the LFS in Kalamazoo. Anyway, sorry to hijack!

 Gee, thanks !

Thanks for the helpful answer !

But....I don't think I've been hanging around the LPS forum long enough to know who Leonard is....?

And look what else I found... This tanks seems awfully similar to the first one. Same rock desing and everything, even the similar school of fish.

Something seems 'fishy' to me. (sorry, I couldn't help that horrible pun)

I remember seeing this tank before and it was in a thread showing marine systems from Japan. The tank was probably just set up for the shoot. It is too new and clean looking. They are designed an arranged to give the illusion of a mature setup. Especially this one that contains Dendronephthea.

Leonardo is popular in the SPS forum and has an amazing Formosa Forest in his living room. A man who knows his stuff.
