Will this work with a D200?
Anyone using this lens?

Yes, it will work. That being said, it's not a true macro. A true macro gives 1 to 1 magnification. What do you intend to use it for?? If just the tank, their are better options.

Gonna use mostly propped up on a bag, just trying to get some more distance than the lens I have now..

Without VC at low shutter speeds, you need a tripod.

With VC at low shutter speeds you'll need a tripod with any lens. That lens is hardly heavy at just over a pound. With the d200 weighing a pound and a half, I'd say it's pretty light. Now if we're talking a 70-200 at just under 5 pounds that may be different, but I used to shoot with one of the older 80-200's without any VC and didn't have any problems. Sure, a tripod would help, but a one pound lens isn't a big deal.

By propped up on a bag I meant one of the bags I use for my bench rest rifle,, it won't move...
Might get a short tripod, don't know yet, a lot of stuff has happened in the last few day that I have to deal with first...

The standard Tamron 90mm Macro will work fine. You can get a cheap tripod from many locations and it will do just fine. If need be, you can always adjust the Shutter speed to compensate for potential shakes.
