ok, well i think that like a month ago when all those corals died form the heat.....i think it set off a cycle.....(it was about a month ago)


my fish are getting ich and slowly weeding off (:( )

my 2 tangs have no spots and seem happy, one of my black saddle back clown fish (the male) died this morning.) the big one looks bad covered in spots. and my 2 false percs. dont looks so good the female seems liek she will be fine, but the male )the smaller one) looks really bad he keeps resting on the sand bed almost then get right up soon then does it again, i dont know if ihe wil make it.....all corals looks bright and happy and fine the clam looks good, the tangs do adn the shrimp and inverts all look good and happy.....i just dont know what is happening to the clowns...what can i do...i really need help.....i have an extra 10 gallon tank that i have used for a hospital tank before, but its drained, and i dont want to take water from the 55 if it is cycling and the water condition is bad,,,,,need help.....ohh the past like 2 days i soaked the food in garlic....but i wish i would have sooner.
 
what can i do to help them out.....i hate having fish die, i think its messed up if they come from the ocean. please help!
 
no one has any ideas comments anything??? please i am really desperate here, if i dotn get help i will just like stay up all night long looking at them hoping and preying that they stay alive and get better. please help
 
Test your water, if there is any ammonia or nitrite do a 50% water change and then a few smaller ones over the next few days untill the levels get in check.

If your inverts are fine, it probably isnt a problem with yout levels. try a freshwater dip on the fish (if you do a search you should be able to find a good description of how to do one). keep on soaking the food in garlic and make sure it is a high quality food because some offer a kind of immune system boost to your fish (atleast they advertise to). You could even try adding a cleaner shrimp. I would also do a search on here for a reef safe ich treatment

To keep ich from reappearing keep your stocking density low. Two tangs is a lot for a 55. I would stick to 5 or 6 small to medium fish.

Rob, how's your water testing out? I'm guessing a water change would be helpful.

You got live rock? You got ich. ...And tangs are ich magnets. I'm not a fan of medication in a reef tank. Feed variety and soak it in garlic. Do you have cleaner shrimp or cleaner gobies? Are your clowns aggressive towards one another?
 
I agree with this advice too. Do water changes, cleaner shrimp and good food. How's the temp in your tank now? You may need a chiller or some way to get the temp stable.

Ich is a PITA sometimes. I'm dealing with it now. In the past, when my fish got it, it would quickly subside; however, ever since I added a dussumier and maculiceps tang to my new system, my fish have been struggling with ich.

There is really no way to get rid of it w/out using copper. The only thing you can do is try to keep the fish healthy enough to endure it, and develop an immunity. This can be difficult in newer systems. You do this by maintaining good water quality and feeding healthy/immune supportive foods such as selcon and garlic. Also, keep the stress levels down. Two tangs in a 55 is a lot. I have three in my 180. The more they fight, the more likely they are to get sick.

Ich has 3-4 life cycles. One of which is free swimming. I have always found that water changes help, because it reduces the amount of ich in the tank. But you need to do them frequently at first. Lately I have been doing them every two-three days. It gets expensive, especially if you have a larger tank.

You should stabilize the temperature, if you have more than 2 to 3 degree fluctuation your fish will get sick. I keep my house at 76 degree all the time to keep my tank stable.

Fighting Ich in a New tank setup with Tangs in a 55g and no UV. Well, its a war that is just extremely difficult to win, its just a matter of time before the ich takes control. when those ich cyst rehatch, most of your fish is going to get it even with strong immune system because there are just too many free swimming ich in the water. Your only chance is to put them in a QT with some form of medication if you don't want to dose your Display Tank.
 
You have at least two pairs of clownfish in a 55 gal?

And two tangs?

Been there, done that.

It just doesnt work out. even if you never had the temperature spike that triggered a stress response like you did recently, there was going to be problems eventually. The temperature spike might not even have much to do with the problem.

Your real issue is that you have overstocked your tank. Not that a 55 gal tank can not handle the bioload of four clownfish and two tangs, but that two pairs of clownfish and two tangs need a very large tank to handle their space requirements.

You might have noticed one pair of the clowns was very agressive with the other pair or they woudl completely refrain from contact with one another. And that the tangs would constantly 'school' together.

Not good.

Clownfish should explore all over the tank. Only the smaller male might remain by the nest area when the female leaves to explore all over the place. Tangs should constantly be nipping at the rockwork. Their interaction with other fish should be almost nonexistent. Schooling behavior is a bad sign.

Your tank is cycling on a higher level and your fish population is stabilizing itself with what numbers really work for your size of tank. You will end up with a single pair of clowns and a tang (tang will expire as it grows too large for the tank).
 
hey rob, I hate to be the one to tell you this buddy, but with ich, and you being a newb to tangs and ich...... you might just loose them. the only way you can win is if you get them into a qt tank and copper them. get like at least a 40g and copper that sucker up. at the same time feed them well. My obsession with tangs from day one that I got into this hobby has got me to lose over $500 of just tangs alone. But I guess with all the tangs that I've lost, I've also learned a ton about tangs and how to care for them. Your best bet is to copper, hyposalinity would be too complicated if you've never done it before.
 
ok well unfortiunatly my internet decided to go out last night before i was able to check any ones comments.......i stayed up until 4....the little clown passed at 3:46 : (


its weird the only ones that dont have ich are the 2 tangs................i think for 2 reasons......they are the only 2 that will get cleaned by the cleaner shrimp. and they are always niping at the algae on rocks or mostly at the seaweed on teh clip, and always just lkill the food.....(they are really fat) so i think their immune system has easily been able to fight it off....they only got it once hten have not again, but spread it unfortunatly..........the only fish who have it now is the female clown fish, and the female black saddle back.......the regular false perc wont eat any kind of garlic food she spits it back out, so i have to feed her the regular food. but the black saddleback clown will eat the food saoked in garlic.


when the 135 goes up.......i am going to quareteen (SP?) each of them at a time before any goes into the tank.
 
I also do water changes and feed garlic soaked foods. The garlic wont make the ich go away i just do it to try and build there immune system. I usally feed garlic soaked foods anyways
