The ps will go up to 41V (rated 36V).. It can handle a string length up to

36-3= 33 or 41-3= 39 So take V(f) X # of LEDs to be equal or less than either of those 2 numbers. @41 volts you need to adjust the PS.. Out of the box it should be 36

Rated power is 151W soo "down and dirty" calculation would be ind. LED w X number of LED's Make suire that is under 151- 10% fudge factor .. 136W

45 3W LEDs.....

Use heatsink compound.. no sense in "gluing" them if you are screwing them down.. unles you run them hot..
 
These guys are 11.4V at 1000mA, according to Steve's Data.

Wattage wise, according to the calculation above, we can run 11 of these, but voltage wise I don't think so. (I am a total LED noob, my only build has been this one.)

Honestly, I think you are on the right path with 6, get it together, light it up and see if you like it. If you need any more, 2 more should be PLENTY. Those 8 LED's would be the equivalent PAR of 2 more Radiums according to my numbers. I think you might cook your corals. :p

If I am imagining your intent, the LED bar will be angled along the front edge at about a 45 facing back to the bottom rear right? That will make your 6 even more focused then the 4 I have firing down.

Make sure to post pics in this thread, it'll be neat to see another project directly spawned from my own. :D
 
11.4 x 3 = 34.2 add 4 to be safe for the LDD = 38.2 since the CLG can go up to 41 you can run up to 3 of the luxeon Ms on each LDD-H driver. up to 150 combined watts worth!

8 luxeon Ms factoring in LDD voltage drop will draw around 103-105 watts from the CLG leaving plenty of room for future expansion as you can draw the full 150 watts from it!

The full 150 watts worth of Luxeon Ms with reflectors would be a tremendous amount of PAR! Keep in mind that SPS can aclimate to over 1000PAR given time and the appropriat photo period. More light shorter photo period, less light longer photo period.

If not dimming just raise the lights for acclimation or use egg crate as we would have done a decade ago, :lolspin:
 
HOUSTON WE HAVE LIFT OFF! Rough wired the components and lit 1 LED, I thought man that's not very bright. I read back through the thread and saw the trick about attaching a phone charger to the PWM hook it up and WOW! As I type this there are orange spots dancing around the computer monitor. LOL This baby is going to ROCK! I think I'll stick with 6 for now until I see how the tank looks. People my slow mind is finally starting to get this. :bounce1:

HA!, don't look at the LEDs, it's bad for your eye sight!
It's pretty simple once you wrap your brain around it. You'll be making lights for your living room before you know it!

It was only 3 freaking seconds! LOL I was literally holding the wire on with my fingers and "FLASH" immediately jerk my hand away and it was dark. My eyes flashed for 10 minutes. :p

The spots will disipate, after all the M's are only clasified as a class 2 lazer....... just don't look at them for more than a spit second and you should suffer no permanent damage!

cause it's so easy and building these things is addictive! Every time I see a pile of scrap aluminum from some construction site I think to myself, what kind of light could I make out of that :lolspin:

......bridgelux vero 90 to 97 CRI models..........

Man, I can't believe you are running those at 100%. Your fish are probably blind by now. LOL Have you decided if you are going to add a dimmer? If so what kind?

For now, I am going to keep them at 100%, and use the money that I would have used for the controller to buy some acrylic sheets. I am thinking of building another DIY Ca reactor, this one will be small, really small as compared to my last one:


That is a 10 pound CO2 tank next to it. It held 50 POUNDS of large media. LOL

Darn! I wish my fish room, err, basement looked like that, I just don't ever seem to have the time to build big things, like my fishroom (looks good in my head though, just have to finish painting the house, building my sunroom, and finishing the attic..........some day though!)......
