Looking for 2-side view tank build threads?

Hi

We're experienced reef-keepers who hope to jump back into the hobby in the near future. Been awhile since I've been here, but it's fun to be back!

We're planning a retirement home with a spot for a tank that we can see from our LR and BR. The space for the tank will be 5' long X 2' in depth. Yay!

Now, I know that there are issues with flow when you do this, so I'm trying to remember about end placements of overflow boxes. I'm thinking a custom-built tank with overflow boxes at both ends and then doing the build such that the actual tank viewing (the house's wall) obscures those boxes.

What am I forgetting?

Does anyone know of a build thread in existence anything like this that they could point me to? I did a few searches and came up dry.

TIA!

Sounds like a nice size! I think you could just put your overflow on 1 side (a mini coast to coast if you will), and put the return on the opposite. If I bump across an appropriate build thread I'll post a link here.

I have a 336g custom Peninsula tank that achieves this effect and flow back to the overflow doesn't seem to be that big of an issue. You can always designate a power head to push the film on the surface back to the overflow or have your return lines on the opposite side of the tank as your overflow. This can be plumbed from above. Then again it also might not be an issue considering I have 4x tunze 6105s, a vortech mp60, a barracuda closed loop, a red dragon closed loop, all in addition to my return pump :)

My build thread is in the follow link.
