Reef system established for 4 years all wate parameters in range. An otherwise healthy hippo tang seems to have Amyloodinium. Small white threads from one side near the gill and pectorial fin area. Very unusual as the only addition to the tank was a dozen snails? is it possible that the snails transported the disease, as I did not quarintine snails. Thanks,
tom

Are you sure this is A. ocellatum and not a worm/copepod parasite?

I would do a FW dip and see what gets left behind in the dip container. If little specks of dust, treat with copper. If small bits of string or coils, treat with a series of formalin dips.

FWIW, anything wet can carry in numerous parasites. Just because it was not a fish that was added does not mean it shoudln't be quarantined.

Cheers
Steve

thanks for the feedback. No I am not sure possible it is a worm/parasite. Multiple white, wisker like, strands. Difficulty is catching the damn thing for the dip.

I tries that but not so easy given the small size and limited effected area. As for an update. The following day 90% of the "strands" were gone, my assumption is entered the fish as there were severl remaining but much shorter in length as if they had partially entered the fins. So that was yesterday. Today the tang seems slightly pinched at that abdomon enven though feedings have been increased and he is an active eater easily the most agressive eater int he tank. Also he has about four bleachy spots, not ick, all the scales are in place no fin rot just color loss in about four spots about the diameter of a pencil. I'll try some more pics the spots should be easier as they are larger then the thread like issue first posted.
