looking for a goby

hi i just set up a 10g tank that i'm looking for a goby to put in. Obviously since its only a 10 it needs to be small. I'd like something that might play in the sand but not necessarily hide out under rocks all day either. Something with some personality. I've never owned a goby before. Ideas?

i have a few clown gobies in my 7.5 1 black 1 green and 1 yellow. they generally hang out where they are visible. although the green one ( of course my favorite) hides most of the time. the yellow and black one generally stay where i can see them. they dont do anything in regards to the sand, but they are fun to watch and so far have no bothered each other even the slightest bit

I have a Randell's with a tiger pistol shrimp and a yashi hase with a Randell's pistol shrimp. Just make sure your rock is on the glass with an area to the front for the shrimp to tunnel into.

You could get a yasha or watchman goby to pair with a pistol shrimp. I love creating symbiotic relashionships in my home. I find it fascinating and cute to watch the pair interact and bond.

A goby pistol pair is a great addition. the goby generally hangs out in the burrow entrance most of the time, only darting under the rocks when startled.

I love my yellow watchman goby. He has no shrimp, but he doesn't seem to mind. He will sit and watch me when I'm on my computer (which is next to my tank). He's always out, always in view and his constant frowning, grumpy face amuses me to no end.

Sometimes if I put my finger up to the glass he'll puff out his gills and show me how tough and terrifying he is. I know it's not the most glamorous or rare fish, but he makes up for it with his character.

At only 10g I'd get something small, like the yasha gobies with candycane pistol shrimp. Some of these other watchman gobies people are mentioning get quite large for a 10g tank! Also look for some Priolepis gobies to hang out in the rocks.

Was just thinking about a goby, since I now will have lots of sand area for the first time. Only an inch deep though.

What about a panda goby? They are pretty small and would fit perfectly in your tank. Not to mention they are very neat looking little creatures!

In my opinion you should get either a yellow watchman, yasha, or maybe 1-2 clown gobies.
since you are looking for just one fish and the tank is pretty small, If you wouldnt mind losing some invert options you could get a catalina goby which have really pretty colors.

The only thing I can think to add to this thread is make sure you secure the top. It's only a matter of time before any goby decides to jump, esp in a 10g.

Catalinas are cooler-water fish, and won't survive long at reef temps. Absent a good chiller, it'll be hard to keep a ten-gallon tank lit and cool enough.
