I use the Ranco's in the lab. The temp differential can be set as low as 1 degree, which means the temp can drop or rise 1 degree from the set point and give you as much as a 2 degree swing. In practice I find they hold tank temps very close, often within 1 degree.
I have an RKE an in no way would I ever consider trusting it for my heater function. May just be me but I have had issues with the temp probes on DA's.

couldnt agree more. Rancos are designed for this very purpose, They control industrial heating/cooling equipment. I would never trust a reef controller to heat/cool my tanks. way too much going on. Rancos are dedicated to controlling temp. nothing else.

well i was thinking about going with an aquacontroller Jr, that way its upgradable and that way i can get rid of my bulky lighting timers and monitor pH constantly
