Looking for a Skeletor Eel

Other lead was Ron at Octopus' Garden in San Deigo, he sells them for around $90 and thought he could get one from a wholesaler in Los Angeles... but still said he has only found 2 so far.

PS. What do you feed them Moray Keeper? Also, what are their growth rates?

My biggest one is around 26-28", jumbo shrimp and fish chunks for the most part. I give them cod, haddock, etc. My smaller one is around 15" or so, smaller shrimp and fish chunks as well as silversides. Don't get me wrong, there not like a dragon moray as far things go but mine are not laid back by any means
 
Looks like yours is real small, nice size to start off with. Probably would of bought it myself, lol. They have a fish I want but I don't want to place an order for just one fish, pay shipping etc unless it was something real unusual so been waiting for something else to add to the order.

Do you think my 2 clowns, mandarian, wrasse, and dwarf flame angel will be ok? Hopefully since the eel will be small to start off with. Already writing off the shirmp, craps and snails...

I have a few small damsels in with one of my skeletors that are still alive but it has been suspected in a couple of missing fish scenarios previously, hard to tell sometimes when you have more then one eel in a tank like I do .

Right now it depends on the size of some of the fish you listed but sooner or later if the eel decides it's hungry before your ready to feed it.... My guess would be the mandarin would go first.

Yeah it is probably the smallest and sticks to the bottom...

Which acclimation method would you suggest? I've never had a fish shipped to me before, just used the 15-20 min floating method, putting in a cup or so of tank water every 5 minutes.
 
DD includes an acclimating guide with your shipment. I always temperature acclimate first and then continue with a drip acclimation for shipped animals.

I used to do this but after reading some of namxas and seahorsedreams posts about the chemistry changes in the shipping water once opened i now acclimate for a much shorter period of time and get the fish into the q/tank asap. In the case of the eel i had to put him straight in as the shipping water was very discoloured and smelt horrible. Its much like fresh water dipping IMO where its a shock but you have to weigh that up with possible ammonia issues etc. I would not want to put a stressed or new fish into a d/tank this way but in a q/tank where nothing can get to them and they will have time to recover i have had no problems. Inverts are a different matter and i drip acclimate much slower. Good luck with your eel, i posted pics so now waiting for yours :)
 
Yeah I guess after being in a small bag for a day, it might be better to get them right into better water.

I'll see the condition of my water tomorrow, hopefully they both don't come like yours did :((
 
Here's the little guy in the tank... wouldn't have been my first choice for a cave... but hey he swam right out of the bag and in there:wave:

Great to see you got it and the eel is in your tank settling down! Mine is very active after lights out let me know what yours does. Did you see there was a big one on DD today?

Would love to see how these guys turn out and where they max out in the home aquarium.

From what I could find out they are supposed to be more snowflake like (crustacean eaters) than out right fish eaters but it is an eel and some posts on here have been about quite aggressive older snowflakes. So far mine is digging holes or expanding holes under rocks and not that interested in the PVC. Did not eat last night. Normally would not have fed again but being new thought I would check to see if it wanted food. I'll now go back to the every second day again or 3 times a week depending on eel.

I don't think they would go for larger fish, but I wouldn't be shocked if it took out a smaller fish.

I was pretty shocked how much force he had when he took a piece of shrimp from the tongs last night lol... happy he ate about 3 hours after being in the tank.

He seems to really love that one rock, I saw him poking out from the very top of it today... had no idea that one rock had so many hiding places in it lol

I kind of thought he'd go hang out in a really big shell I have in there :spin1:

Just click on "go advanced" under the normal reply box. Then on the next screen, below the submit / preview post buttons, there's a section called manage attachments.

Just click that and find the files on your computer to upload. After they upload, just close the window and submit the reply :)
