Looking for a tough mean agressive fish who needs a home

I am looking for a tough mean aggressive fish looking for a home. I may be selective as I don't want fighting as much as I want someone that can hold his own. The fish needs to be free or cheap and big enough to hold his own against my Undulated Trigger. He ate his last friend. Hopefully he learns his lesson or he will be alone for a very long time.

Scientific Name Balistapus Undulatus

Max. Size: 8"

Tank Size: 70+

Aggression: Most aggresive triggerfish of all; keep out of aquariums that contain invertibrates and most fish. Using it's powerful jaws, the undulate trigger will pick up bits of crushed corals and distribute anywhere in your tank. Despite it's aggresive behaviour and potential size (more than 12 " in a large tank) it can be a rewarding fish to keep, becoming tame and enjoying lots of fuss from the owner

Hardiness: Very hardy, but requires a lot of food, and therefore create a lot of organic waste. Invest in good filtration with any triggerfish!

Reef-Safe: NO! unless your invertibrates and coral are destined to be food

Available as captive-bred: No
How about another Undulated Trigger and hold a fish cage match. joke.

Good luck with that! Undulated Triggerfish are among the meanest species in one of the meanest families of fish in the ocean, the triggerfish. However, I have heard that Undulated Triggerfish from the Red Sea are more peaceful, so if you have one of those you might be able to keep it with something just as mean, like a great-white shark (my moneys on the triggerfish in that fight).

i have a very rare true viper Morey eel ie;enchelycore nigricans that has been with an undulated approx 5" to 6" with no issues . i must tell you this though ,that trigger usually is signified by being best kept in a tank alone . yes everything is okay now but the hit a point where they get extremely aggressive and may attack tank mates for no reason .the good thing with an eel and trigger fish in the same tank is that they hunt in different waters and usually recognise this thus leaving each other alone . if you are interested please PM me and we can further discuss the possibilities .i have had 12 eels/triggers in 12 different tanks for years and have a bit of experience with them as tank mates.

Thanks for all the comments keep them up. I know it will be next to impossible to have no problems here. Dave, glad we share the admiration of triggers but eels are not my thing. I think they look cool but I could not pick one up if it slithered out of my tank. :lol2: What would anyones thoughts be on a big mean maroon clown as a tank mate be? Michael R

Look on the bright side though, I you had to keep only one fish in a tank, this would probably be the best one. Undulated Triggers are incredibly hardy fish, active, don't require any special care, and are very entertaining!

My second salt water tank came w 3 fish 1 undulatus, 1 niger trigger. I soon got tired oyf the triggers constantly turning my rock work over and digging in the substrate. you may be in for a wild ride. When you look these guys up in the fish book you will find 1 sentance, Must be kept alone... Have Fun.

the clown would be sentenced to death for sure . it would be amazing if he made it past 1 minute.not a good choice at all .

How about a Archelon?
A carnivorous sea turtle of the Cretaceous period which grew to be about the size of a car. Would this work if I could get one? Michael R

I've found that Megalodons and Liopleridon work best with with Undulated Triggers. They have some on sale at my LFS, I could get you one if you wanted!
