Hi, i have a small flameback already and would like to add a flame. I just ordered a social box to help with introducing new fish to the tank. What i am wondering is what size flame should i get? Not sure if smaller, same size or larger would be best to help prevent any fighting. Thanks in advance for any input.

What size tank do you have...if very large, maybe they will have plenty of room to avoid each other. I had to remove my flame as he became very belligerent to my lawnmower blenny of all things. They were together for over a year then...bam. Nobody messes with blenny..lol

I would say that there is more chance that they won't get along, than they will get along. Unless, it's a really large tank.. My .02 anyway...I hope it works out for you.:fish1:

My tank is a 90 with lots of live rock. Im still not 100% sure ill get the flame but wanted to know how to best go about it if i do. Thanks for the input

Typically if you put 2 dwarf angelfish together, they usually fight. The best way to go about doing it is to add them at the same time, but it looks like that is no longer an option lol. In my experience, flame angelfish are bigger than flameback angelfish. It would probably be best to avoid adding a flame angelfish, but you could try. You could maybe get lucky :)
In only a 90 gallon though, i am not sure if that would end up well. good luck with whichever choice you make :)

I would add another Flameback Angel. I think you would really enjoy watching the angel spawn. Either that or remove the flame back and add tow Flame. Which species not really important but I would recommend same species.

I would try to catch your existing flameback and put him in the sump for a week or so, and then purchase your flame angel and after that put the flameback in at the same time with the flame angel.

IME, Flamebacks are very aggressive to newcomers. I think you are going to have a major problem trying to add another Dwarf with the flameback already established. You best bet is to catch the Flameback and try to introduce them in quarantine tank and see how they do, then introduce them to the DT at the same time.

The Flameback probably won't be very happy to see a similar shaped angel in his territory, but if the flame is a lot bigger, it won't have much to say about it.

sorry to hijack your thread though on the same lines; I have a Flameback and looking to add a Multibar,do you guys foresee any issues? The tank is 60 w plenty of rocks, caves, etc

This!
Go for a pair or harem instead of "variety". You will get much more out of it in the long run.

Hi....I was following along...what did you end up doing? Did you add the Flame? I have a 80 gallon and have never had any luck adding more than one dwarf...I have tried adding both at the same time....taking the established one out and putting him in after the new one....rearranging the live rock...you name it. Now I only have one dwarf....! Please keep us posted! 8)
