I'm just looking around and putting some feelers out for a DC8 to add to my Jr. I'd like to add 4 more outlets to get to the total of 12 so I can run a couple more things and customize everything a little better. At this point I'm trying to add my kalk reactor so that it will shut off with high pH, but my only open slot is my alarm plug and I'd really like to have that alarm for when my temp or pH is out of range.
I may or may not be able to do it financially this month (although I do have at least a couple frags I need to make since a few corals are growing together faster than I would expect), but if the right deal walks along I probably can.
Anyway, if you have one you're willing to part with and/or happen to see a good price on a used one, please let me know.
Please note that I do know that 8+8=16, which will put me at 4 outlets more than an ACjr. can handle. I've talk with Curt at Neptune and he said the DC8 will control 4 of the 8 outlets but that the remaining 4 outlets default to off (you can turn them on manually and reassign the ports, but the next time you have a power outage, the outlets go off and stay off). The reason I would go with a DC8 over a DC4 is availability and the price (which is only slightly more for 8 outlets instead of 4). If I get 2 DC8's now and want to upgrade to a ACIII in the future, I'll already have the extra outlets. I don't plan to upgrade my tank again, but if I add just a few more pieces of equipment, have multiple sets of temperature controlled fans, and/or put each light ballast on a sunrise/sunset, I could easily have 16-20 controlled items (if not more). When I was deciding on controllers, 12 seemed like more than enough (and realistically it is...right now I only have 8), but when you start thinking about all of the things you could do with them it is easy to come up with fun ways of controlling everything...
