I picked up some from Kermits afew months back.
I would say I have some to give you, but I just trimmed mine down to afew leaves to make space for more to grow.
Understandable. Honestly, I keep going back and forth on whether I want to try some in a sump or not. I think it looks much better than cheato and could do a good job with nutrient export and I'm not afraid of the "going sexual" risk. The one thing that keeps me hesitant is reading that all caulerpa exude a compound into the water that negatively affects coral growth and calcification. Watching my corals grow up from small frags is what I like most about my tank so this is a big issue for me.
Did you notice any of these effects on your corals if you have any?
I have only read about the sexual dangers of Caulerpa, I have never heard about it effecting the corals. I will definetly check this out.
Do you have any articles or links for the info about this?
I read about it on wetwebmedia. http://www.wetwebmedia.com/caulerpafaqs.htm
See the first question/answer. Although its not a scientific article, I fully trust the authors for correct reef advice.
I have never noticed an impact on coral growth, but corals aren't here generally long enough or put in the tanks to grow. It does work well on nutrient export. I was about to cull some out today. I'll hold off if you need some.
Larson, thanks for the input. For now I think I'm going to wait on the caulerpa. I have some gracilaria that I want to try instead. I'll keep ya in mind though if I change my mind down the road.
