Looking for info about Aqua Remora C

I am looking at buying a used remora c, and was told that it was a newer unit because it had the "o-ring" instead of the set screw adjustment...
Does this sound right to anyone, I am asking because I am a rookie and have no idea about the skimmers. Any feedback would be helpful.

Had a remora pro and it was a good skimmer but like all hang-ons it really lags behind many insump skimmers in the same price range. Unless you really have to have a hang-on, and I mean really have a hang on, the remora is a good option but I would rather, or wished I bit the bullet earlier and got an insump model first off.

I would love to have an in sump skimmer, but my set up doesn't allow for it. It was a great set up when I was into freswater, but for salt it sucks, to much invested already to scrap it and start from scratch. The remora is about the only one that I found that will fit my set up to. I only have 4 1/4" clearence behind the tank.

I think for a 29G tank it will be the perfect hangon skimmer! Just make sure to upgrade the pump to a MJ1200 and pick up an overflow box. Let me know if you have any other questions about this skimmer. I have one on my 38G!

Do you know any thing about the o ring or set screw deal? How big is the skimmer box? The cool thing is that it comes with the MJ1200 already. I hope this all works out.

I have read that the mag 3 pump is best. Buddyboy have you tryed that pump on your remora, if so do you still think the mj1200 is better?

My cousin has had mag pumps in the past, and is using one right now in his system, until his new one comes so he can scrap the mag.

Yes. The o-ring is the one you want. It's like a big elastic band. Very convenient to use for adusting the skimmer. Just moisten it with some petroleum jelly as they can get brittle over time. The skimmer box isn't too big. It won't look conspicuous in your tank as it's black and will blend in. It's also a great bubble trap, and has a chamber in it for a media bag.

The Mag 3 will work with the non-pro with a few mods. (bigger tubing) You will get better performance but the pump is also bigger, will run hotter and will take up more room in the tank. Bigger overflow box too! I think for a 29G tank, the MJ1200 will be more than enough.

What type of filter media doo you use and for what reason? It seems that the only thing that I still have trouble brining down is my nitrates. It is coming down but slowly.

I had some algae (bryopsis, etc) in the tank until I threw in a bag of Rowaphos. Worked like a charm. No bryopsis to be seen anywhere.

converting any tank, drilling overflows and making a sump out of a $10, 10gal cheap tank is a fun weekend project. Costs less than $50 + pump if you already have a dremel. Inaddition, you can also create a refugium but if your set up just does not have the space, I understand.

For a 29 gal, dont yall think the mag3 is a bit space consuming? To me, it is the size of a small child considering it is meant to be a hang on pump.

NE case, the remora will do well as long as you dont over-stock. The O-ring type is the prefered style.

edit: Nitrates? you really need a refugium. Chemical methods are really only short-term "stop-gaps" Get a refugium with some chaeto and kiss nitrates goodbye!

Here are some of my tank shots. I just had the cannopy built by a family friend who built the bookcase and cabinet that the tank sits on,

Here is a better shot of the tank. I am still getting use to using my camera so the quality is not the best

Here is what I started with when I had just my eclipse hood. Now I have the 250w 14K MH, quiet 4000 with SCWD and two MJ600's

Fire, i have the remora pro on a 125g FOWLR, and few inverts and easy coral's. It has a mag 7 and extra large skimmate box. It works very well and my nitrates are always less than 5 and that is with no refugium, they are normally 0. For a 29g tank, you may want to try a coralife superskimmer, they are fairly cheap and people always rave about them. Or check out a turbofloater 1000, it can be used as a hot or in sump. I've rrecently built a large sump, but i have a hot skimmer, so its still up in view. Those are my thoughts, but i do like the remora pro.

i have one on my 50gal and am looking to upgrade i have the remora with 1200 pump it works but it could be better

Ok, so you bought a Remora pro ($250) and then put a mag7($50) on it. You could have bough an ER that would handle 10 times the volume for that.

Guys, these skimmers were decent 5 years ago, but they've been passed by so many times. Theyre just not a good value.

Also, the quality control on the AquaCs is horrible. Too much variation in the product. You can spend $200+ and get a skimmer that will never work.
