Looking for info on strange acro issue (close pics included)

My plana (desalwi?) has had these wierd growths on the ends of it's coralites for awhile, they are only in one area but are on a few branches. This has not affected growth around the coralites (this coral is a weed) but the efected tips do not seem to grow (everything grows around them). These tips are not hard, if I turkey baste them they blow around like a sack of liquid. This has not effected polyp extension, at night they still extend fully and retract in the day. If you look at the tps there are stripes on them? It is only affecting this one coral and does not seem to be an issue (just visually wierd). These are close-ups the coral has very small coralites, the effected tips are about the size of the round end of a needle.

Has anyone seen these before? Does anyone know what they are? Will they go away? Will it adversly affect this coral in the long run?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Man, dont worry about it. Its just growth, not solidified yet.You must be doing something right they are growing rapid.

Thanks for the responses!!

drake66-- Cut them off and sell them as LE jelly acros :D

Menard-- Have you had this happen to any of your acro's and seen it solidify? I am not doubting you, I just want to know what to expect.

ddr-- any results? did it go away?

I am not really worried about losing this thing it is by far the fastest growing acro in my system, I have just never seen this.

John. yes that happend to acros. as well . so I waited nothing happen then one day gone. It sorta like blisters. Im tellin' ya. dont let it bother you. JUST GROWTH.

what is your MG and SG? because it's related to those two, look up acro blisters under advance forums.

Spykes--I will look into the thread, thanks for the heads up!! mg is in the 1200 range when checked (not as often as I should, maybe monthly) so it is low, I do not dose for it specifcally, I change 5 gallons of salt water a week and 3 gallons of top-off (salt is TM-pro) Total tank volume is around 25gallons with sump. Salinity is 1.025 24/7 per milwakee refractometer (calibrated to local shop's water and ro) I have my top-off dialed so it does not swing, I check it once every week or 2, it is rock solid. Mg is low but consistent, my tank is mostly all deep-water acros, most only get polyp extension at night. This acro is mass-fuzzy 24/7 but the white polyps (as seen in pics) that are at the ends of the branches stay in during the day and massively extend at night. I have kept acros in nano's for going on 3 years now, I have not had issues with growth/color or ever seen this in any other acro I have had.

edit:: just looked for the thread, did not see it, search is down, if you have a link please post it!!

Could it be that the acro is going to drop babies? Never heard of an acro doing that but it looks like what frogspawns do and also gonioporas as well right before the baby buds fall off.

I have seen this in LPS and is not due to growth is caused by heat. Is an indicator that yoru tank is a little ont he warm side, bring it down 2 dregrees.

That isn't a blister it is just excess Ca+ solidifying. I have a granulosa and a gomezi that do the same thing. It seems to happen to them in higher flow areas, almost like the coral has trouble calcifying. The gomezi is starting to look like the hunch back of notre dame, but still keeps growing....

Thanks for the responses!!

Julio--Bringing it down 2 degrees would put it at 77 dagrees, temp is 78.7-9day-79.4-5night- daily. My heaters stay on in the day, the fan system I have set-up comes on and off with the light and keeps the tank in the low-end of that temp range in the day and in the high end at night, cooling is over efficient for this system.

iReef69--Salinity is rock solid, always have been, system is automated.

jsweir--Strange you mentioned granulosa, I have one that had a strange tip (only one) at one time, until now I never thought about it. The tip has sinse deflated and looks mostly normal, I didnt even think about that until you mentioned yours here. I wounder if it is genetic and triggered by some sway in a parameter or just something that randomly happens? I would think that if it was a disease of some kind it would effect more than one coral or atleast more than one specific part of a single coral in my tank?

I have it from time to time. It's just an irregular growth spurt. Soon it will pass and new branches will be present. More than likely there will be new branches in those areas soon.
