hey guys I am looking for a few sets of lights.one is 36 inch power compact, any metal halides and one for my five gallon nano. if anyone has any that they are looking to sell please let me know, thanks

what are the difference in the T5 will some one explain them?? are they like MH lighting? and what can you have with them(SPS < STONEY )

its hard to explain exactly what the differences are between t5's and PC/MH...you should research it.

I have and I understand that the T5 are a VHO but there are so many mixed reviews on these kinds of lights that I wasn't to sure on if they are good lighting system and what grows well under them. some people claim that they are a cheap way to go them MH and others say they suck. just trying to get some local info on the difference between the too

From the research I've done, T5s are the best quality HO florescents. Some even prefer them over MH, some don't. But watt for watt, I believe the T5s are more efficient. If you happen to go for T5s, make sure to get the Tek brand as these have individual reflectors that make them far superior to other T5 brands. Do a search on the Tek brand and I'm sure you'll find many threads on T5 quality.

They are far from a cheap way to go .......individual ref;ectors are a must if you expect them to be effecient

Not cheap to buy but FAr cheaper to run. I don't believe that they pack the penetrating power of halides. I'm very interested in this new LED stuff...Not that I could afford it.

i'm also quite fascinated by the LED's. but i'm sure it'll be years until it's worth it. but like i said if i had the 3grand for the 5 foot fixture i'd need, i would have already ordered one!

Not me. I've learned first hand the strengths and limits of PC. And seen the results obtained with MH. I wouldn't begin to think of spending that kind of money until I'm convinced it works.

There was a guy at MACNA- Tullio something, who was developing the LEDs. I have his talk on DVD. Maybe that could be an activity for the meeting?

As far as the t5's (you want HO), you can get a retrokit with individual reflectors and bulbs for $120 for a 24". I don't think it will be a whole lot more for a 36". Premium is where I am going to get some from..... The bulbs typically last 18 months, use less wattage than vho or PCs, and give more penetrating light. There a quite a few tanks that are using just t5s and growing sps just fine- though there are probably 6-8 of them over a tank. I had PCs, and did vho's, so now I'll give these a shot. I liked the vho's more than pc's fwiw- just my preference.

Vin and Dan attended, they weren't impressed. I was at another talk so I missed it. I'd like to hear it but I won't be at a meeting until September. Getting married in August.
