the fish shack in manchester has it for 4.99 and u pick your pieces!

drove to manchester today and bought 40# live rock. looks great and tank looks alot better. one of the Fish Shack tanks had bubble algea but the rest looked good. Bill the owner was very willing to destroy his tanks to dig out the pieces I wanted. noticed he had legs on a light identical to my light that were very nice. he was out at the manchester store but had them at his dubuque store. I bought them in manchester he is shipping them to me for free. I have seen better and worse stores but the rock was cheap. well worth the trip.

im sorry to puke on the fish shack but i live in dubuque and i have been dealing with the fish shack for many years from reptiles to fish, i wouldnt reccommend anyone to buy live rock from there let alone the fish. the closest place i found good live rock was in madison, my whole tank has their live rock in it, the store name is Aquarium Superstore, John is the owner. i have never paid over $3.50 a pound there and i was always able to pick my own rock. That is well worth the trip for me. Dont get me wrong, Bill is a very nice guy and Tasha who runs the dubuque store is very nice also but im afraid that their suppliers are less than acceptable.

Well Madison is a little stretch for me to drive with me in the Cedar Rapids metro area. I don't know what turned you sour on them but you say you are "very new" to the hobby so I am just curious what they did to you or said to you? like I said I have seen better and worse. They have came recomended from a few people I have talked to and you are the first negative I have heard. If he did me wrong I will let it be known.

On a better note I have noticed som awsome hitchikers. I even found a scallop about twice the size of a BB. Positive so far!!

Dont know any cheap places for live rock... I got 150lbs of Bali live rock from SOM but can't disclose my price I paid as I do work there.. If you buy lots of it he does give a deal of sorts.

ECO REEF AQUATICS L.L.C. in Miami, Florida has great live rock. He will ship free if you buy 100 lbs. He will also send pictures of the rock for your approval before shipping. The phone number is toll free (877-269-1935) or 305-269-1935. He charges 3.50/lb hand picked or 3.20/lb mixed. His web site is www.ecoreefaquatics.com. I just got off the phone with him.

sea of marvels has the best looking rock i have seen. my tank is full of it. it is a little more expensive, but as was said earlier, you can usually cut a deal if you are buying lots of rock or other merchandise.

I always crack up a little when I ask the guy (Hung) at Sea of Marvels how much a frag costs and he gives me an answer like "for you I will sell it for $35". My wife and I always joke that when he says that what he really means is "for anyone else I would have sold it for $25". I am certain that isn't the case, it just makes me chuckle the way he says it like he is cutting me the deal of the century, even though he doesn't know me from Joe Schmo.

LOL I thought the same thing about Hung. hehe. I don't remember his LR being all that great but it is the best local place around. His prices are up there. It has been a few years but I thought all he carried was Fiji rock?

I was thinking the same thing, I stopped in one day and it was the same thing "For you $35" I was starting to think for everyone everything is $35 :-)

They never "did me wrong" that being said, my "very new" experience is true, but my uncles have been at this for a few years and i have been dealing with the fish shack personally for 7 years with reptiles and i have seen the fish shacks products. one of my uncles refuse to buy from there anymore. i wasnt saying they have bad stuff but the prices and quality are better in madison. you asked for a good place to buy it and i reccomended madison, i didnt say not to go to the fish shack. i am glad to hear you are happy with your rock also bill is a very good guy to deal with.

$3.00 per# at fishin times in pikin il. must order a 50# box at a time but what a deal I seen the stuff last year was very nice
