Looking for LOCAL Base/Live Rock

I am one that believes that base rock never becomes live rock and therefore base rock use should be minimal. Just because base rocks can have coraline on it does not mean it is live rock.
Steve and Steve are right.
LR is so important why cut back on it?
 
I've recently learned to make my own rock. It's ridiculously easy and works out to less than 10 cents a pound. Takes about 1/2 hour to make and then about 6 weeks to cure.

It's so easy I had a cub scout troop of first graders make there own rocks!

I have about 7-10 lbs you can have. You only make your own rock (not live) in shapes or supports you do not have.
 
I do know that you can get walt smith dry base rock for about 1/4 less than the live rock. It is sold as sun dried rock, and is basically a mix of their rock that has dried out. You may can check to see if a lfs will order it for you. Or, if you have a bus. Lic. I can point you to a wholesaler who sells it. Also, mpdharley ordered some type of base rock through robs reef that was the same as reeferrocks base rock. I just can't remember what it was called.

Why not ? They take dry lime rock and put it in the ocean for six to eight months and sell it as Aqua Cultured live rock are they just getting away with a scam ?

marineduud are you talking about Tampa bay type rock? I don't believe aqua cultured is as good as live rock. For the proper biodiversity to develop on LR takes many years. Worse yet is the dense rock that is used in the aqua cultured business.

I should have said that base rock or aqua culture rock will not be as effective as LR.

I also am one that believes LR has a life span. Some should be changed out every few years.
