Looking for mushrooms.

Here is my honest opinion. I received five corals. All of which were distributed equally by Kegogut. In a far and even way. I also thank him for putting together this group purchase. Picking the two boxes up from the air port and setting up a quick system to house them in for us to pick them up.

I picked out my own corals of the bunch that we received. So I have no one to blame for getting not so colored up ultra corals. Out of the five corals I took home. There is only one that I will be keeping, it is a red recordia rock. Which my favorite local fish store has eight of them right now for $35 each.

We all have to realize that we purchased two boxes of corals unseen. We all did not know what we were going to be receiving. We all went with a word of mouth that we will be receiving some awesome stuff.

I am not going to bash the seller. Nor am I going to comment to them. I'm not that kind of person. But if six months from now everyone wants to do another group buy from this company. I will pass.

I agree with Darrell for the most part.
Kegogut you did a great job.
I would like to at least have the company know how we feel about his definition of "Ultra"
6 rocks for me. 4 of them do nothing for me and are almost identical in green. One that is a keeper. "Purple ones". And the orange ones I already have.

I am not saying I would pass again in the future though. But their would need to be certain assurances that there would be a greater variety and of "ultra" classification. Again their were a few I would class ultra. But not the majority. The majority I can get at any local store for the same price or less getting a few heads. Plus I can see them before.

Transhiping is a gamble and this time the house won.

Yes thanks kego for putting this all together and hosting , i do agree w darrel and frogspawn , buying online its always a gamble , and even worst without pics of what ure getting , im not gonna lie , i did have high expectations from this order , specially after seeing all the cool shrooms dave have in his tank , and the combo rocks that the club got in the past for the swap , not sure if I would do it again thought , is there a chance tha maybe they mess up on the order and they sent regular shrooms instead of the ultras .. ?

Thanks Kegogut for hosting, the hospitality, and getting this arrangement in order. I was really excited for this shipment because of the "Ultra" mushrooms. Instead was disappointed once I saw the quality.

Next time you guys plan to do another order, I would think a clear and concise definition of "ultra" needs to be stated. Also go the quality over quantity route.

Sounds like Kego did a great job collecting, storing and divvying up the lot! I see a few really nice shrooms, yumas and a LOT of really plain jane stuff that we get around here all the time. I am wondering if the source has dried up, or it is getting picked over in LA. I emailed Mitch about the two short and shot him a copy of this thread so he could judge for himself.

I was wondering what his response was. Hope that he does not take any of our takes as bashing. I know that was not the purpose of anyone in the group buy.

No, Mitch is one of the really good guys. He finds the best sources he can and makes it available without being cherry picked out West. I sent him a link to the thread and while group buys can be a pain in the Smack, I think everyone on here as been very respectful and honest in their appraisal of the order.

I have been in on one of these orders before. I had the same feelings as well right after the picking and bagging. But after the rocks had a chance to settle in to my tanks. Acclimated to lighting and start growing again. They have really started to become my favorite pieces.

Ya some stores probably do the same order. You can probably find the same stuff and sometimes cheaper. But you can imagine if that store found a couple diamond caliber pieces. You would not be paying $35-$42.

I think this is fun to do with a good group of trusted friends. Yes, you win some, you lose some. But I think it makes it fun too. The excitement, the let down, the Ha! We will see if I will frag you a piece of that later. If you want to frag that piece and we will trade. If you are in it to flip rocks and make some money. Leave that to the stores.

I'm planning a ultra combo rock order for Jan/feb time frame. I was not impressed by 90% of the shroom rocks, but was impressed by every single combo rock. The only coral I would have removed would be the fox tail (colt) but it was even a nice red not the normal plain Jane tan.
I'm content with my shrooms. Out of the six, one whole rock of coral was melted and four others are normal Ric's and Rod's but one; one is really showing potential with some really deep, bright, vivid pink bases and emerald green polyps. I just need to get a good picture for the club to see, I'm thinking they will find their way to the CDP once they start kicking babies out.

Very well said,

That is why I would do a second chance for me. Voicing a slight concern about a purchase recieved, too be a little on the "Less than expected" side. Is ok. My hope is that the business recognizes the concerns.
Sales is a relationship. Maybe they say the next order, "We will raise the bar much higher!" So to get a third order,4th, 5th....

Then again they may not care as much as we would like because they have more orders than we know of, and it doesn't matter to them.

All I know is. I want in on the reorder :xlbirthday:

I have noticed some small shrooms popping up around my rocks. I'll try to get some more pictures of the others.

Has Mitch responded to the group yet?

Yes, via email to me. However, this thread was never meant to serve as a bully pulpit to get free stuff, if that wasn't your intention Koddie, then apologies:)

Mitch was very apologetic that you guys weren't blown away by the goods! He appreciated the pictures put up and agreed that some of them were great pieces and some plain Jane. He is sending a link and some pictures to the thread to his guy in Nam who he has worked with bringing these corals in for years. He said he would get back to me. One concern was that some of the pictures are under white light, which tends to wash out colors, and adding some blue/actinic light can make a huge difference on how the corals look.

He also knows we were shorted two corals, so that will be a credit there as everyone paid X$ and didn't get what they thought they would be getting number wise. Mitch has sold me many boxes of corals and live rock over the years, and has always been great to work with on his excellent communication and his frequently throwing me a discount for being a loyal customer, just like he did on this order. I'm sure he will make it right, but I'm not expecting him to do anything specific, that's entirely up to him.

I will tell you guys that Mitch has never disappointed me with how he works to make things right, so rest assured that he will here too:)

I agree with everything Nook says. Mitch has always been very responsive and I dont know any distributor who has better customer service. He said that he would let his supplier know his concerns and give us a credit for the missing pieces towards a future order.

I was the only one who didnt get the number of pieces they paid for. Although the order wasnt as "ultra" as we had hoped or expected it's what happens sometimes when you buy things sight unseen.

I'm sure me and/or others will be placing future orders with Mitch. He does have access to some really nice and rare corals that I would love to have. That being said if anyone who was in this order that wishes to participate in future group buys involving me with this particular distributor I'll be sure to share the discount with whoever participates.

Mitch and I have talked, as have Kego and myself. Mitch took care of Kego on the shorts nicely:) He also said that since several in our group weren't happy with the order, that he would credit us $200 for the folks that weren't as happy with what they got. His supplier is looking at the photos, so that is good, and the first question he had for Mitch was "what do they look like with blue light on them". Mitch agreed that the Ultra stuff shouldn't be stuff that we see at the local shops, and definitely not browns!

Kego and I agreed to just have Mitch apply that credit on our next box, so anyone wanting that discount on this purchase just needs to join in on our next box and you'll see that savings. It's hard to please everyone, but this was our decision, so I hope that is OK?

I'll be ordering from him towards the end of January if anyone wants to join in. I'm not asking for any of the credit. I'm considering a combo box or maybe a Aussie box.
