Looking For New Reef Tank

Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum and am currently looking into starting a new reef tank. I have dealt mainly with small nano-reef tanks in the past but would like a more substantial sized tank. Any tips or vendor links or sales would be appreciated. Thanks!

+1 on used- much bigger bang for your buck. Unless your set on a specific size/type that you cant find used. If you could give us some idea on the size or type ( drilled or not) your looking for, what type of equipment your planning on getting, are you going to do a mixed reef or a sps tank ( so flow and light requirements) , etc. Are you planning on picking up a whole setup like Lori's or put together your own setup once or two pieces at a time.

Well I am honestly unsure at this point. I would like to do some low light soft corals (I don't think I could afford the electric bill on high-power lighting for exotic species or calcium reactors for sps) and unfortunately courtesy of a test I just failed at my university I am no longer able to graduate this term so ill be on a budjet plan for a while. I guess I should probably just stick with a fish-only tank or something. Any tips?

Thanks Lori, I actually saw your tank on the other forum yesterday but I can't afford that kind kind of price range at this point unfortunately.

How about a price range that your looking to get under and for what type of equipment your looking to get for that amount of money....

Example #1: Looking for a tank, stand, canopy combo ( more than 55 gallons/less than 120) = for less than XXX dallars.

Example #2: Looking for a tank /stand (no canopy) with a hang on light ( 35 gallons to 90 gallon range) for xxx dallars.

You can always add skimmers, better pumps, better lights, etc. once you know what tank you have and what type of reef you hoping to keep.


This way we can try to find what you are looking for.

wish i would have seen that tank on here. that is a good fowl tank. but due to not working i cant get it. turbo if you still have it in a month or so i will prob take it. i have everything else to set it up right away.

BTW I make all-in-one acrylic aquariums up to 30 gallons (36" x 18" x 12) (breeder/frag tank) and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good chemical filtration to use? for the most part all my designs are only utilizing Bioballs and sponges with a carbon cartridge. Would there be anything else I could use that would improve that? Thanks.
