I havent been around for a while. No, i wasnt banned like some of you wish.

I was looking for an update on the large aquarium that was sprayed with a thick layer of foam on the back as a background. Just wondering how that worked out in the long run. I have a customer that wants me to do that to his aquarium before I set it up and I'm not so sure of the idea.

thanks

There is also someone in the large tank forum that did it, but it wasn't secured enough and ended up floating up.

I used 1/8" acrylic sheets cut to fit through the top lid openings, foamed each piece then spot glued with silicone to the back wall, leaving about an inch all the way around, then foamed that inch boarder after gluing to secure the panels in place, they haven't moved at all and would be quick and easy to remove when I sell the tank, also didn't have to turn the tank on it's side to install

thanks elliot

nice aquarium and a very cool effect. I think that looks nice and it sounds like you thought it out and executed it well. That PB tang looks to be is superb shape also (my fav marine fish).

a couple questions-

-how long has it been set up like this?
-have you noticed any unwanted organisms boring into and living within the foam?
-will live rock damage/crush the foam if you have it resting against the back?

I just have fears about what it will be like in 5-10 years and how the foam will hold up.

tank has been set up for 10 months without problems regarding the foam. In fact, the foam has become indistinguishable from LR. I believe it behaves similar to LR as it gets inhabited by micro-organisms. When I had many hermit crabs they did break off small pieces of foam that ended up in my sump but no big deal, that has stopped since I got off crab thing and went with a few large serpent stars for clean up. No problem with resting LR against the foam. I would definitely do foam again, I like not having to clean the back wall!

the way I installed it allows for easy removal at anytime for any reason

You might be looking for Sidewinder's thread... I heard it has been torn down. Here's my new foam wall...
