Looking for proof LEDs work - post pics if you have them

Do MH and or T5 look better? Probably according to those that have adiscerning eye. Can I tell the difference between a $15 and a $500 bottle of wine? Heck no, but I know people that can, lol

I love my Radion. Great sprectrum, low heat, programmable, no bulb changes, lower cost.

Great pics Scott!! There is no doubt in my mind that LEDs grow sps! I think there is a part that Scott left out, these are 1watt LEDs! It can be done, and done very well!! As far as colors, well that yellow stinger Scott has is about as yellow as yellow gets. This tank is the envy of everyone in far northern Cali. I see this tank all the time, and it just keeps getting better and better!

Haha thats funny that ros_sco and scoly both posted here in my previous post about the sunbrites their tanks were the ones i was talking about. ros_sco's tank is amazingly beautiful and scoly your tank is amazing as well the sunbrites really seem to work well.

Scott, Bongo - SICK!

I switched from a single 250w Radium in Feb to an AI Sol Blue 75w. I have a lot of clams AND sps:

I am asked all the time if the LED's are my single source of light and yes- they are. My growth rates have not been as fast as with MH, but the coral and clam coloration is excellent. And doing this at 75w vs 250w.... I like it,

Wow Shaun thank you! I hope my tank looks like yours some day. Just stunning! This is turning out to be a great thread. People just don't give LEDs enough credit!

Hey, your welcome- and thanks!

LED's seem to have some sort of a weird conspiracy vibe about them and I don't know why. They have been proven for some time now, and it's fascinating/amazing (to me) that these types of threads keep surfacing on whether or not LED's will work.

I have seen dozens of amazing tanks with LED's: DIY's, AI's, and Radion's which are much older than mine and look WAY better.

LED's work - there's no conspiracy here.

From the photo labeled "top whole" I see a reflection of the LEDs. That looks like a warm white an actinic around 470nm and a royal blue around 450nm, am I right? I'm asking because I am considering modifying the colors on my fixture.

Thats not a bad idea i cant really tell if its 470nm for the whites or not

Sounds about right.

From the AquaIllumination website:

White: Cree: XPGWHT-L1, Correlated Color Temperature (CCT): 6500K
Blue: Cree: XPEBLU-L1, Dominate Wavelength: 470nm
Royal Blue: Not Specified

I think the people who end up claiming the LEDs don't work well/at all are actually having another problem such as keeping parameters stable or ionic imbalances and they blame the resulting issues on the LEDs. Like you said, we have all the proof needed right here.

Generally speaking most people with successful tanks have their routines down to a science down to the changing of bulbs and have tried many different spectrum's of lighting there is very little incentive for them to change what isnt broken. Led's are new so it will take a while before alot of the big dogs make a drastic switch. If i had a 400 watt halide full blown sps tank i wouldnt change my lighting if there isnt a major reason too.

Side note i love my Led's so no bashing this statement :D

I agree 1000%

Hey everyone this is AnJreef...... I am using a old sign in name
but to the point can LEDs Grow Corals.........

My 90gal reef is also under 6 48 inch sunbrite 1 watt LED's and all these corals started as frags! I cant let Northern Cali represent without throwing a few pics of my tank these picture is my tank 11 months ago on its 1 year birthday.
Ros sco your tank just looks better and better everytime I come by and see it keep up the good work, here are some of my older pictures of my tank, I am up in Redding but I will update these photos when I get home in a few days to show growth shots

LEDS grow corals without any issues that I have seen, I also feel that the corals colors are more sharp looking and as I said this was my tank 11 months ago on it 1 year birthday and as you can see it has done pretty well, there isnt anything fancy in there however my reef is a mixed reef with anemones mushroom and various differant corals that people have said can not be grown under LEDs well my tank is now on 2 years and all the corals that where in it in these pictures are still in just twice as big!
Happy Reefin
