I'm a big fan of molluscs and I've been interested in adding a larger diversity of them to my tank.
The species I'm most interested in seems hard to find for purchase, however (and I don't want to spend 100 on a standard minimum order plus shipping for the few online sites that sell them just to get a few snails). It's Stomatella varia, the sluglike grazers with a relatively tiny shell. Has anyone come across a good place to acquire them (I've checked the websites of most of the local stores, but don't see them listed). Or does anyone already have an abundance of them in their tank that they would be willing to sell?
Like tiny stars, they mostly seem to get into people's tanks as hitchikers on live rock rather than by direct purchase . They supposedly are also one of the few saltwater snails that reproduce with a high rate of success in the tank, since their free swimming stage is very short and does not involve any special dietary needs. They are generally highly nocturnal and fast moving (for snails), but I'm pretty sure I don't have any sneaking about in tank already since I'm an avid red-light night watcher.
