Looking for Torch w/ short sweepers????

I would love to add a torch to my 28 g. cube but I'm worried about how much space I'll need to allocate to the torch due to it's sweeper tentalces.

Are there any colorful, cool torches that tend to have shorter sweeper tentacles?

Also, are there good corals to place next to a torch that won't get hurt by the sweepers or are less likely to get attacked by the sweepers.

I think the Australian gold torches have shorter sweepers than the Indonesian ones.

I have a torch and a frogspawn in my 14g BC. To combat the sweepers I make sure the placement is either above corals susceptible to the sweepers or in an area of flow (near a power head or return) what would direct the sweepers away from other corals. I don't know if this is an option for you but seems to work well for me.

Yep. I have mine on the right side of my 28g JBJ Nano at a mid level and it's doing great. Can't touch anything because it is on a sort of rock cliff and everything is either above or below it. My flow also alternates Left to right but sweepers seem to stay parallel to the front and back of the tank because of the rock scape.

I have a ton of Euphylia in my tank. I have found that higher flow rates tend to cause them to retract a little more than normal...not lots, but enough to note a difference. For example, take a look at my torch below. I was experimenting a little with flow. This is more direct, high flow after about 2 days. It's usually extended so much, I pull tentacles out of the overflow. You can see how increased flow negates the PE:

I am not saying this is the right thing to do, but if you can't find a short sweeper torch, this might keep it in check...or it might not.

I think wanting a short-sweeper torch coral is like wanting a vegetarian lion. Best bet is to locate it (the coral) in a corner with the flow pushing it back into a corner. They're aggressive buggers.

If I'm not mistaken; there is a group of Torch coral that is found along the waters of the Kendari region that have shorter tentacles. The underlying skeletal structure is also unique of this coral. The sweeper tentacles are shorter and do not extend past an inch. The sweepers and skeletal structure is clustered. I believe it is from Kendari. Enclosed are pictures of the specimen in my my display pictured in the center. You can compare the length to the surrounding euphyllia.
