looking to borrow reef related books

I don't know who's out there but I surely can't afford to purchase all of the books that I'd like to read and I promise to treat your books with the utmost respect. Any and all reef related reading considered.
I'm especially looking for Captive Seawater Fishes, Steven Spotte, 1992
John Wiley and Sons Publishers
ISBN 0-471-54554-6

This is the "bible" and probably more suitable for professionals and advanced hobbyists. Definitely not for beginners.

This type of material is not available in our public libraries.

thanks for the offer, Dave. I already have signed copies of those in my library.
Julian Sprung and Charles Delbeek have been very helpful to me throughout the years :)

Amazon has it for $300 hahaha. I might have a copy of saltwater fish for dummies but I think thats about all thats in my arsenal I research online

Gary,

My guess is that you already have it, but if not you're welcome to my copy of "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" by Bob Fenner. I also have "The New Marine Aquarium" by Michael Paletta, but that book wouldn't exactly provide you with any useful information (it's aimed at the absolute beginner).

Anyway, if you'd like either of these books, let me know...

I don't remember if I've read that one, Jason.

It's definitely not in my home library.

Here is a link to get it for around $50.

If you want to wet your appetite, Google Books has a preview of "Captive seawater fishes: science and technology" that seems to be close to 1/3 of the book if I had to guess.

it's a must read. We'll have to connect. I have reading material you can borrow in return if you're interested.

I already know it all...or so my wife tells me regularly. :worried:

I've only read the two books I mentioned, so if there is another book that you consider a must read that you already own, feel free to recommend it. Otherwise, I'll just take Junior as collateral to ensure safe return of the book. I'm sure he'll be fine in my 20g sump for the amount of time it will take you to read the book. ;)

I've got 3 books. They're mainly geared towards beginners, but you're more than welcome to them if you want.

Marine Reef Aquarium Handbook by Dr. Robert J. Goldstein
The Saltwater Aquarium Handbook by George Blasiola
saltwater Aquariums for Dummies by Gregory Skomal

I had a copy of Clownfishes by Joyce Wilkerson, but my dog ate it (seriously) and my wife still has yet to replace it.

I have a signed copy of Calfo's 'Book of Coral Propagation' (hardcover) that you're welcome to borrow, as well as 'The Complete Illustrated Breeder's Guide to Marine Aquarium Fishes' by Matt Wittenrich.

Scott, is Wittenrich's book any good? I saw that a few weeks ago and thought about purchasing it.

The Reef Aquarium: A Comprehensive Guide to the Identification and Care of Tropical Marine Invertebrates (Volume 1) Julian Sprung (Author), Charles Delbeek (Author)

I have a copy of this you could borrow, or even temporarily swap with something from your library.

Not trying to hijack your thread Gary but this is a great idea. I'm willing to extend this offer to anyone that would be interested in exchanging books for a couple weeks or so.

It's awesome. I have Wilkerson's book, but this one is even better since it addresses so many species. Let me know if you want to borrow it and we'll connect sometime in the next few weeks.

I'm just going to buy Wittenrich's book. I almost pulled the trigger on it the other day. I appreciate the offer though.

I'll exchange you something to read for that Wittenrich book, Scott.
I'm sure that I have something you'll enjoy.

Nirvana- I'm pretty sure I read those 3.

~Gary,I dont have the ones your looking for on hand.I do own spottes Captive seawater fishes but its on loan to a good friend not local. The other I dont have at all.

From your post I think your looking for something indepth.Do you have Adeys book?Dynamic Aquaria.I gotta say its really indepth. If I were to make a comparison to say The reef aquarium vol1.Id say TRA VOL 1 is like looking at and setting up a clock, where Adeys book is looking indepth at what makes a clock tick.If your into that sorta thing. Both are great books just different.

Iwould be willing to loan it to you for as long as you need.I would have to ship it though.Just let me know. -Graves
