I am looking to get a new macro lens for my Nikon d70 SLR camera. The main purpose of the lens it to capture pictures of my fish tanks. Any suggestions, or specific lens you have had success with?

Thanks for the advice

I took this with a Nikon 60mm f/2.8 micro. Great lens, although I'd probably go with the 105mm so you don't have to get on top of things. BTW this low res "web" version doesn't do the lens justice...the high res version on my computer is much sharper.

This is probably my best effort to date. I've only had the 105mm Nikor for my D70 for a short time and had even less time to really play with it. Haven't even got to set up the tri-pod yet. Complete and total photog noob also. I can see where this combo would be killer in the right hands.

^ Ditto. I've purchased multiple items from them. Prices are always good, and shipping is always quick.

I just bought a Sigma 150mm macro lens from BHphotovideo for my D40, and it'll be in tomorrow. Can't wait to take some pictures with it. Too bad this lens was more than I paid for the camera itself.

60, 100 and 150 would all work just fine. The longer the focal length, the further away you can be from your subject and still get 1:1 magnification. For aquarium work and other "live things" the 60 needs to be in pretty close. I use a 100 personally and when that doesn't get me far enough away out comes the telephoto, TC and extension tubes.

;)

I tried to take some pics with the 18-55mm lens that came with my D40, but even in Macro mode, they still seemed too far away, which is why I dropped enough money to buy a 180 gal tank for this macro lens. haha.
