Hey guys, I'm lookin to purchase a large tank for my basement. Here's a link to a 240 on craigslist. I'm gonna have to buy a used tank and this one just came up a couple days ago. It has a wet/dry unit in the stand and from the looks of the pictures doesn't have overflows which concerns me a little. Anyway, looking for some opinions. I'm going to go look at it here in a few hours. Thanks everyone for your help and input.

yeah i still need to find out if its tempered glass or not, if not i'm gonna drill that baby! I believe it has a wet/dry filter inside the stand so i'd be selling that, the two sets of lighting, the fish, and definately paint the back of the tank black! Could also easily drill just on one end for the overflows and make it a room divider, my basement is easily about 50ft long x 25 ft. Long an seems narrow but it isn't, just need to rearrange. thanks for the replies.

To me its a good price on the tank but I think he is pullin ur leg on the price per pound of live rock I mean I live in south dakota about as far away from the ocean as you can get and I pay on average 10 a pound! also with the sand 10 dollars a pound my butt! but like said above its not rr and drillin can be a nail biting thing if you dont know how to do it. I'm sure the light system is pc lights because is a fish only tank so if you decied to go with coral you would upgrade that. Also I would ask for some pics of the sump area what skimmer ect. does it come with.

yeah i replied by email and a guy called me and said he was posting it for a friend and to call the number and i could come look at it in person, so i called but have yet to hear back. I got a buddy that's really good friends with a lfs owner here in town so i'm hoping i could give him a case of beer to drill it for me, open the case of beer after we drilled it of course lol! I'd definately sell the lights and get some t5's possibly some mh's....

I'm thinking the guy that posted it for his friend meant 6 bucks a pound for live rock, it goes for about 8 bucks a pound around here, and yeah $10 a pound per sand, that must be a magic algae free substrate! Thinkin that when i talk to him about it i'll offer a grand cash? but that's only if its really lookin like its worth it.

Going to view the tank at 5, need advice on what to look for!

Going to view the tank at 5, need advice on what to look for!

Hey guys, just spoke with the owner of the tank last night finally! The stand is made of pine, the tank is 2 years old. The live rock is Fiji and he purchased everything from a decent LFS here in town 2 years back. The rock has never been bleached, and he has never used anyting copper based in the tank. I'm going to go view it at 5, so in an hour an a half, getting excited lol. The tank has a trickle down filter inside the stand. I don't like the fact that the tank is painted blue on the back, could i somehow change that to black? He said there's over 300 pounds of live rock in it currently. I asked if its tempered glass and i believe he said no but i'm gonna take a look at it tonight, if its not i'm gonna have someone here locally drill it for me. Anything else i'm missing, i need help quick so I can ask more questions when i go view it. He's asking 1400 but last night he said he'd take less, so i'm thinkin about offering a grand for it. Here's the link again.

Not sure if anyone is still reading but I'm gonna post anyway! Lol! Went and checked out the tank at 5 o clock today, asked more about the tank. So here goes:

Tank is 72x24x31 (5'3" from floor to top of tank on stand...)
240gallons
Red dor grouper(barely could see him cause he hides, but saw his head and he was good lookin!) 5" in size
Clown Trigger - beautiful! fed once a day with dried shrimp coated in protein enhancer, fish was awesome looking! 5"
Picasso Trigger - Very good looking and healthy, bout 4"

At least 250+ pounds in live rock, all had very good coloring and you could tell what had been in the tank the longest, it was extremely purple an green.
the substrate was a crushed coral/pebble which i will replace.
The tank's seams looked brand new, he did weekly water changes and cleaned the filtration system every other change.
Never used copper meds in the tank.
He was asking $1400 so i offered him $1200 and he said she's yours. So looks like i'm going to start pickin it up tomorrow, at least the rock, the tank will be picked up with stand and filtration setup mid next week....
forgetting anything, any input?
