loss of deep color??

DID I SOUNDS SMRT??
Hey,

I have some Acro's that have slowly gotten lighter in color. Some corals look better this way and some not. The growth is very good but I'm just looking for the deep colors that I have either gotten in the past or bought a coral that has lighten'd up in my tank.

Is this a lighting thing or a nutrient thing?? What is usually the cause of corals losing deep coloration?

I keep laughing because people have worked soo hard to remove ALL of the nutrients from their systems and now they are having to focus on getting them back, lol!

How long do you run your halides? which kelvin rating etc...

For me, I noticed the same thing. I was running my halides for about 7 or so hours a day in the beginning. Now I'm runnig them 4.5 / day and I think I can tell deeper colors in my sps. Ive got 14K 250 x 2 hqi pheonix btw..

Thats the point . You want to get to the point you need to add your nutrients thru feeding and other means ........

That's Bare Bottom Control ;)

Well I dont have halides. I have a 55g with 4 48" Geissman bulbs and icecap SLR reflectors. I run my lights for 12 hours.

I have an over sized skimmer ( ASM G3 skimmer) as well.

So what do you guys recommend....lower my light period? Feed more? Run my skimmer for half days or every other? What do you think????

It happened to me with a SSB and remote sandbed ;)

dvanacker,

Are you running bb? I have seen a huge difference since I started feeding more.

It just seems funny to me, adding back to what you work so hard to remove. Oh well, I have no right to question it, it seems to work well for many reefers.

No ....I have a SSB. Could this be a problem. I use a turkey baster and blow it around every once in a while too.
