Lost a couple acros

I have been adding more frags lately and the last 3 days I lost a couple to STN. Come home from work and almost all flesh is gone. One was a newly added 3 inch frag from Divers Den and the second a small colony from a LSF that I have had for a couple months. All others appear happy. I dont see any bugs or bite marks just STN from the base up. I am wondering if my Flame Angel is the problem. I haven't seen him do any nipping and have had him for years. Tank is 1 year old but rock all came strait from my old 120 of 8 years. I have noticed my temp is staying a couple degrees lower now that he AC is on in the house. Any ideas?

Light 1 250 Watt in a lumerbright pendant
1 MP 40 and 1 jaebo 25 both constant.
Alk 9
Cal 440
Mg 1350
Sg 1.027

Numbers look ok, but was is your po4? Also how long did you dip for? Anything stinging? Also looks like the colony on the left is slowing going too.

Mariculture acropora are very prone to RTN and STN. Natural sea water alk is somewhere in the 7 range and your Alk is at 9 so that may have something to do with it as well/ I try not to buy any mariculture unless it is a very colorful piece that has alot of potential and Ill take a chance

Havent tested po4 in a few weeks I can test tonight. Last test was .2 I believe. Nitrates are always 0. Only have a few fish and feed one cube a night. The birdsnest on the left was going a few weeks ago as well but has started to come back. I dip everything with Coral Rx for 10 minutes but I'm thinking of trying Bayer dip. I have a very large Frogspawn and Torch but they are in the back of the tank. The hydnophora in the middle is fairly close but I dont think they can touch maybe 6 inches away.

I am dosing alk with BRS alk with the apex and can dial it back a little to bring it down over the next few nights. The divers den frag was a maricultured frag. Seemed fine for around 3 weeks and then yesterday it was gone all they way to the tips.

Depending on location, ie lagoons, tidal areas, etc., alk has been tested in my local club within the trans-shipped bags all the way up to 11. Just saying

Im going to get a better po4 test kit. The one I have is API and I am colorblind so it is very painful to use. Also sorry for the pic I should have cleaned the glass first.

I'm colorblind as well. Get you a Hanna for alkalinity and phosphate. Can't go wrong there and the the cost and health of your coral, not to mention the frustration of things dying, far out way the cost of the instruments. You must dooo eeet.

That is the one I was just looking at. Being colorblind makes testing parameters difficult. I always seem to annoy my wife asking to look at color coded cards. Thanks!

Do you guys keep your SG at 1027?
I would think 1.024/1.025 would be best for a SPS system.
Can't that also contribute to RTN?

Grandis.

I use the old style densimeter...
Try to keep the SG ~1023 - 1024 for my zoas.
The Milwaukee must be a great tool!!
Thanks for the tip.

I have added an additional 250 watt lumenbright pendant to cover the sides of the tank and 2 actinic stunner strips for dawn dusk lighting. I have an MP40 at 50% and Jabeo 25 at 75% a Hydor nano and mag 9.5 for return. The total volume of water is roughly 50 gallons this should be plenty of flow don't you think? I also started running GFO again in a 2 little fishes reactor. Seems to have already helped as phosphates are dropping and water seems alot clearer.

Now were talking, pending everything is testing correctly and you keep stable, you will be doing just fine now.
