Lost on my next fish pruchase

A lyretail would be fine. I have considered it. Anthias actually aren't like tangs where they need the swimming room.

I'm going to disagree there. IME lyretails need lots of room. The males especially get big, and shoot around the tank after the females. Mine looks cramped in my 4' 150g. How about a fathead anthias? Those are very attractive, don't swim around as much, and are fine alone...

My concern with that is that when I tried a kole, my wrasse freaked out. He sat in the corner of the tank and wouldnt come out unless to eat. So he has made me a little skeptical with any fish he might have to 'share space with'. I definately wasnt happy he was so upset about the whole ordeal. Not agressive wrasse at all. He actually plays and swims with the clowns.....its kinda wierd. Like a fishy threesome

Yes, that's how I read it. Sorry to the OP. :)

No problem. I try to be clear about all my information. If Im not, Id rather clarify it.

I wouldn't think the wrasse would have the same reaction to a fathead anthias as a kole tang.

Well Ill keep that suggestion in mind. Would only 1 be good? Or would it be possible to get a male and female?

Well I decided on a Blue Mandarin and Royal Gramma. Any chance I could get away with one more fish? Or do you think that would be too much bioload for a 40 breeder? Im using a Reef Octopus skimmer, 55 lbs of rock, 55 gallon volume in tank.

Mandarin

Mandarin

From what I've read, a 40 gallon tank is not big enough for a Mandarin. (Maybe if you have a refugium)

Food for thought.
