Lost one Anthias already

I keep having terrible luck at That Fish Place. The last fish I bought there was a Tomini Tang that ended up having Lymphocystis and Ich. He died after about 2 weeks and then I lose both Anthias.

I've been considering purchasing my livestock elsewhere.

I've got nothing but good things to say about LiveAquaria.com! Also, check out their Diver's Den specimens. Sometimes you pay a little more, but those are QT'd for at least 2 weeks and have to be eating before they are sold.

When you order from them, how do you handle delivery? I'm at work from 8 - 4pm, so I wouldn't be there to pick up the package and get them acclimated.

LiveAquaria ships everything via FedEx, and at least where I live, the main FedEx office is open till 5pm. So, I just have them hold it there until I can pick it up (go to their website and "schedule a pickup").

LiveAquaria also does Saturday deliveries but it costs more. No matter what you do, they give you a 14-day guarantee on all livestock, so you won't get burned if something comes in DOA. Or dies within 14 days of receiving it.

So it's OK to let the fish sit there all day while I'm at work and get it on my way home? Provided I can find a local store where I can pick it up.

Many times I've picked them up right at 5pm and never had a problem. They overnight the fish, put pure oxygen in the bags, and ship them using insulated coolers (and/or warmers/ice packs) to maintain stable temp.

I set all my QT parameters to match theirs, so I just float & release after about 40 mins. You get free shipping if you order $225.00 or more, so it helps to find someone in your area to split an order with. Otherwise, it's $35 shipping if you order less than $225.

I'll have to call around and find out where I would be able to pick them up in my area. The extra $35 in shipping wouldn't be an issue, especially if I don't have to deal with buying sick fish that end up dying a few days after warranty from my LFS anymore.

You can go here and put in your zip code to find the nearest location:

You can also tell them to hold your delivery for pickup on their site.

When you're looking on LA's website, be sure to check out their "Diver's Den" specimens. These specimens are eating and have already been treated for diseases (to an extent). You still want to QT them as you would any other fish though. I've been noticing lately that some DD specimens are becoming more competitively priced with regular LA specimens. Especially once they put them on sale.

With Online shippers like LA the packaging is usually more than enough. I had FedEx lose an order from flying fish express and it took 3 days for the fish to arrive. Most of them were still alive. LA bought them and continued to ship the same. I don't think you can go wrong with them. You can also have it shipped to a knikos, they are open all night.
